July 12, 2026, Castel Mareccio (Schloss Maretsch) Bolzano

The lords of Maretsch presumably came from the burgher class and held judicial duties in Bozen in the mid-13th century, but they likely only rose to nobility in the late 13th century. In 1477, the castle passed to the Römer family. Various generations of this family were involved in the expansion of the castle, and the conversion of the medieval castle into a Renaissance residence also falls within this period. Under the ownership of the Hendl, a minor noble family in the Bozen area, further modernizations were carried out, primarily affecting the courtyard and some portals. Today, Maretsch Castle is a modern conference center that can be rented for a wide variety of events. The magnificent rooms, some decorated with frescoes, offer the right setting for every occasion: weddings, concerts, conferences, lectures, or a special gala dinner.

The name "Torgglhaus" originated around 1895, when the building was rebuilt on the site of a medieval house. As early as the end of the 19th century, the building was registered in the land registry office as a "house with a courtyard and inn." The restaurant business has always characterized this historic building in Bolzano's old town, which has been run as a traditional South Tyrolean inn and restaurant since 1786. The Torgglhaus is considered the oldest restaurant in Bolzano. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torgglhaus

The Laubengasse (Italian: Via dei Portici) in Bolzano is one of the city's oldest and most famous streets. It was built in the late 12th century by the Bishops of Trento as a central trading thoroughfare with arcades. Stretching from Kornplatz to Waltherplatz, it forms the heart of the medieval old town. The characteristic arcades offer protection from sun and rain and invite visitors to stroll and shop, while the facades of the buildings reflect various architectural styles and showcase the city's rich history. Historical landmarks such as the Mercantile Museum and the Old Town Hall are located in the immediate vicinity, making the Laubengasse not only a popular shopping destination but also a vibrant testament to Bolzano's history.
