April 22, 2026, St. Matthäus Church (Melle)

St. Matthäus is the Roman Catholic main church of the Grönega, located in the city center of Melle. It is the original parish church of the Grönenberg deanery, founded in the Middle Ages (around 800), in the southeastern area of the Diocese of Osnabrück. Next to the residential tower of the Wasserburg Gesmold castle, it is one of the oldest testimonies of architectural art in the Grönegau, the southern Osnabrück region. It is considered an excellent example of Low German architecture from around 1200, built on the Kohlbrink, an elevation in the Else river valley, located in the current pedestrian zone next to the Melle town hall and the Evangelical Lutheran St. Petri Church. In 1974, it was expanded with the addition of a new church with a tent-shaped roof.

The Grönegau Museum consists of three buildings from the years 1771, 1655 and 1804 as well as the bakehouse from 1572. Rural, bourgeois and handicraft objects, furniture, costumes and much more are presented here in the region-typical half-timbered houses. Interesting facts about flax processing and linen production can be learned and some complete workshops are set up. The museum is located in the Grönenbergpark in the center of Melle. Just have a look!
