Bridge for pedestrians and cyclists over the rushing Murr River. But who was Ernst Rieker? Ernst Riecker was born on June 27, 1845, in Backnang. His father was the owner of the Lower Pharmacy. Riecker also trained as a pharmacist. In 1866, he emigrated to the USA and opened his own pharmacy in St. Louis. Riecker frequently visited his hometown of Backnang. He died in St. Louis on January 7, 1918. The urn containing his ashes was later transported to Germany and buried in the Backnang City Cemetery.
