The memorial should remain in the memory of every incompetent politician who, before and after, did not cover themselves with glory but rather with rum. Despite a warning from the European Flood Alert System EFAS, they had warned of the catastrophe four days in advance! Evacuated early and there would only have been material damage, so 188 people had to lose their lives. Helmut Schmidt called in the military for help in 1962

As more and more Christians settled in the thriving spa town of Neuenahr in the 19th century, the neo-Gothic Martin Luther Church was built in 1872. Donations from spa guests, collections, aid from the Gustav Adolf Foundation, and 10,000 thalers from the emperor made this possible. With the 1958 reconstruction according to plans by Heinrich Otto Vogel, only the bell tower, the rose window above the main portal, and the two side windows remain. The new section is made of concrete clad with rubble stone. Eugen Keller's mosaic of the Crucified Christ behind the altar dominates the interior. The organ was installed in 1978. During the Ahr floods of 2021, the church was massively flooded and severely damaged.

"The Protestant Martin Luther Church stands directly on the Kurgarten Bridge, in the immediate vicinity of Bad Neuenahr's town center. The successful development of the spa and the increasing number of spa guests were also decisive factors in the construction of this church. The many Protestant visitors were no longer required to attend services in the hall of the "Houverath" inn in Ahrweiler, but could instead attend a Protestant church in Bad Neuenahr. Therefore, the neo-Gothic church was built directly on the banks of the Ahr River in 1872. The construction was financed by donations from spa guests, a grant from the Gustav Adolf Foundation, collections in other Rhenish communities, and a gift of 10,000 thalers from the German Emperor. As the number of Protestant Christians in Bad Neuenahr continued to grow over time, the church was redesigned and reorganized in 1958. However, the expansion, in the form of a new side aisle, necessitated further modifications, such as raising the roof and reducing its pitch. Due to the renovation, only the eastern bell tower, the rose window in the gable front, and the two side windows of the nave remain in their original form. On the eastern bell tower is a cast-iron relief of the first pastor, Gustav Adolf Pliester, who played a significant role in the development of the parish. https://www.ahrtal.com/de/pois/martin-luther-kirche/poi.html
