The New Gradierwerk in Bad Rothenfelde already looks huge. A walk around it is almost 1 km long. The salty air feels good.

This playful gatehouse from 1913 was designed by architect Karl Frey. Compared to his other projects around the turn of the century, it is practically a garden shed. As befits a garden, a fence was also essential. Today, these iron fences with many spikes are back in vogue. The entire area of the concert garden, the Wandelhalle, and the Gradierwerk were enclosed with it at the time. At the ticket booth, this very gatehouse, everyone paid the spa tax to enjoy the music, the fresh air, or just a stroll through the Wandelhalle. But soon the lucrative time for the cashiers was over. World War I came and part of the fence went into financing the military apparatus under the motto "Iron I gave for bread - Gold I gave for iron". In 1922, there was a new and much shorter fence around the concert garden. But 44 years later, this enclosure had also served its purpose and disappeared entirely. Where these elements went missing is probably not recorded in any file. Source: https://www.historische-schaufenster.de/index.php/Schaufenster/konzertgarten.html

The oldest of five themed gardens in Bad Rothenfelde is the Concert Garden, which is considered the cradle of the town. This is where salt production began in the 18th century with the Alte Quelle (Old Spring). In the mid-19th century, the first summer vacationers arrived to benefit from the healing power of the brine, and the former operational yard transformed into a garden with arcades, a pond, and a concert pavilion. The current concert shell and ticket booth are unmistakably from the Belle Époque and regularly form the backdrop for the Winegrowers' Festival, the Christmas market, and, of course, the daily spa music in the summer.
