This viewpoint gives you great views of the ruggedly beautiful Halawa Valley to your south. The road running through it is Hawaii's H3 interstate highway. Yes, you read that correctly—it's technically considered an interstate, even though it only traverses the one island. If conditions allow you can even see all the way to the city of Honolulu, also to your south.

This is one of many points along the 'Aiea Ridge Trail (which transects the 'Aiea Loop) that give a great viewpoint over Pearl Harbor. It's an evocative place, where you can easily imagine what it might have been like to witness the Japanese attack on the harbor that triggered the United States' entrance into World War II.

This 18-foot bronze statue of Kamehameha is one of Oʻahu’s most photographed landmarks. This statue was erected in 1880 after the original statue was thought to be lost at sea, but was then recovered in 1912! For those not interested in history, this is also a popular location from the TV series Hawaii Five-O!

Aloha Tower is an iconic symbol of Hawaiʻi. Built in September of 1926, this was the tallest building in the islands for four decades and its clock was one of the largest in the United States. Aloha Tower is still a docking port for cruise ships, but has predominately been revitalized into a marketplace.

Oahu offers pleasant hiking conditions year-round due to its tropical climate. However, the dry season (roughly May to October) generally provides sunnier weather and less muddy trails, which can be ideal for families. Even during the wetter season (November to April), rain showers are often brief, and the lush greenery is at its most vibrant.
Policies regarding dogs can vary significantly between different parks and trails on Oahu. While some trails may permit leashed dogs, others, especially those in protected natural areas or within military installations, may have restrictions. It's recommended to check the specific regulations for each trail or park before bringing your dog.
For family hikes in this tropical environment, essentials include plenty of water, sun protection (hats, sunscreen), insect repellent, comfortable closed-toe shoes, and light, breathable clothing. Snacks are always a good idea, especially with children. A first-aid kit and a fully charged phone are also recommended for safety.
