If you have a clear view, with no haze on the horizon and sunshine, you'll have the opportunity to see Cologne to the northwest from the tower. First, locate Cologne's television transmitter, as it's visible to the naked eye. Then you'll find the cathedral. Tip: Binoculars will definitely help.

It is thanks to a Berliner who moved to the Eifel region with his parents as a child and explored the area from an early age that he compiled a list of the paths he had already visited. Over the years, this led to the development of a network of paths and also resulted in the creation of mapped trails in the Eifel. Furthermore, several Eifel clubs have been formed to maintain and preserve these paths. Thank you to these members.

The Burgberg is a hill approximately 400 meters high near Bergstein in the municipality of Hürtgenwald in the German Eifel region. This hill is not only scenically beautiful but also historically significant. In the Middle Ages, the Reichsburg Berinsteyn castle stood here, and during World War II, this strategic elevation was called Hill 400 because of its role in the Battle of Hürtgenwald. At the summit of the Burgberg stands the Krawutschketurm lookout tower, a 13-meter-high wooden tower named after the Eifel hiker Franz Krawutschke. From this tower, you can enjoy a nearly 360° panoramic view of the surrounding nature and the Eifel landscape. 👀 What can you see from the Burgberg? 📌 View over the Rur Valley and the Eifel: From the summit of the Burgberg, you can look out over the Rur Valley, an area of rolling hills, forests, and valleys that extend far into the Eifel region, offering impressive views of natural landscapes brimming with greenery. 📌 Obermaubach Reservoir: You see the Obermaubach Reservoir, a large reservoir in the Rureifel, set against a backdrop of forests and fields. 📌 Expansive landscape views to the north: The view extends far across the Jülicher Börde and even to the Bay of Cologne in the direction of Cologne. 📌 Distant views on clear days: In favorable (clear) weather conditions, you can even see the silhouette of Cologne Cathedral in the distance from the observation tower—a spectacular view for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers. 📌 Views of surrounding villages and historical sites: You can also see the village of Bergstein itself and, with a bit of luck, even Burg Nideggen, a well-known castle ruin in the region, further along. To enjoy the view, first climb to the foot of the Burgberg and then use hiking trails to ascend to the Krawutschketurm lookout tower. The tower has three platforms, allowing you to view the landscape from different heights. Around the tower are hiking trails, including the Krawutschke Trail, a forest nature trail with information boards about flora and fauna, making the walk varied and interesting for all ages. After the climb, you can take a break at the Burgberg rest area to enjoy the peace and quiet, or simply enjoy the view a little longer before descending. 🌞 Best time to visit The view from the Burgberg is at its best: • On clear days, when you can see far into the landscape, even towards towns and landmarks in the distance. • In the morning or at sunset, when the light dramatically accentuates the hills and valleys. • In spring and autumn, when nature is at its most colorful. The tower and the viewpoint are freely accessible year-round, so you can walk there in both summer and winter.

The bridge is still being rebuilt, but a temporary bridge has been built next to it. It's not pretty, but it's okay. The alternative is definitely garbage and very dangerous.
