Katrien
December 26, 2025, Abdij Maria Hart /Birgittinesseklooster

The origins of this convent date back to 1442. After the sisters were expelled from the convent by the French in 1797, the convent was sold at public auction and converted into residential buildings. In 1843, it became an abbey again, this time for the Bridgettine Sisters, the "Sisters of Maasstraat." The current building of Maria Hart Abbey originally consisted of six houses and was converted into the current convent in several phases (1843, 1850, and 1856). In 1856, the chapel with its Gothic windows was built, and it became a cloistered convent. Until then, the Bridgettine Sisters had made a significant contribution to Weert society, including the establishment of a civic school and a school for the poor.

St. Martin's Church is the main church, or deanery church, of Weert. The church is used for Roman Catholic worship and is dedicated to Saint Martin. Like the Grote or Michaelskerk in Zwolle, St. Martin's Church in Weert is a hall church. These are the only two surviving examples of this type of late Gothic building in the Netherlands. The building is listed among the top 100 by the National Service for Monument Care, primarily due to the exceptional quality of its detailed and colorful vault paintings; one of the largest continuous late Gothic vault paintings in the Netherlands.

Nijenborgh Castle, known as Huis Op de Biest, is located in the Dutch Limburg municipality of Weert. The fifteenth-century moated castle was the main residence of the Counts of Horn. It was destroyed in 1702 during a siege in the War of the Spanish Succession. The manor house Op de Biest was built on part of the ruins.

December 14, 2025, Station Weert

The station building that stands there today was built in 1914 and designed by George Willem van Heukelom. It is a brick building with an octagonal tower topped by a spire bearing the city's coat of arms.
