The unique Dommel river valley landscape is also considered important in Europe, especially for rare bird species. It is therefore a paradise for birdwatchers. Hawks, buzzards, and honey buzzards like to rest in the area where the Dommel and Bolisserbeek rivers meet, but you can also see all sorts of buntings, kingfishers, and black woodpeckers. Robins, wrens, wood pigeons, and stock pigeons, among others, live in the hedgerows and forests. (Nature and Forest)

Beautiful forest trails along the Ortolaan nature reserve. This stunning nature reserve owes its name to a rare songbird, now extinct in Flanders. We are trying to change this in this stream valley through adapted nature management. The Ortolaan is part of the Molhem-Hoksent hiking area, an ideal spot for a relaxing and varied walk. Walking along the Dommel River is a beautiful experience. There's often a path running alongside it, but not always. Be careful, though: good, waterproof footwear is recommended for such a walk.

The program also includes a celebration in the chapel, food and drinks, and plenty of friendly cheer. (Information board on site)
