Known incline in the region. The worst part is at the end. Halfway, just before the traffic calming measures (planters), you can catch your breath or shift up a gear to tackle the last 'tougher' section. During rush hours, it can be quite busy. If you are coming from Asse (via Petrus Ascanusstraat) or Asbeek (via Hoogpoort) and want to ride down the Vrijthout, pay attention to the road surface. Because of cut-through traffic, the condition of the road surface on the right side is poor in some places. Going uphill, this is not too bad.

History and significance: Year of construction: the chapel was built in 1946. The first stone was laid on May 15 and the chapel was solemnly consecrated on June 23, 1946. Reason: local residents of the Bootdijk erected the place of worship out of gratitude. The neighborhood was spared from severe disasters during World War II, and no one from the street perished. Moreover, the chapel served as a plea to protect the neighborhood from persistent flooding. Characteristics of the chapel. Architecture: it is a white-painted, rectangular brick roadside chapel, designed by the Hamse architect Leon Van Hove. Turret: on the slate roof stands a striking square bell tower with a wrought-iron cross. Interior: in addition to the statue of Saint Rita (patron saint of hopeless cases), the chapel also houses statues of Saint Martin and Saint Thérèse. There are four stained-glass windows.

The castle was built by the Spanish nobleman Don Pedro Coloma and still exudes its former grandeur. Philippe de Marnix, Lord of Sainte Aldegonde, was the right-hand man of Prince William of Orange. He played a key role during the siege and fall of Antwerp in 1585 while mayor of the city. He is also mentioned as a possible author of the Wilhelmus, the Dutch national anthem.

N.V. Brouwerij Moortgat, founded by Leonard Moortgat in 1871 (see the facade stone with the date and the mention of J.L. Moortgat/M.H. De Block), initially as a mixed family business, a farm with an accompanying vinegar and beer brewery. Due to the growing success of the brewery, where the first "Duvel" was reportedly brewed in 1927, the facility was expanded and renovated several times. Today, the brewery buildings are relatively recent, the oldest of which date back to the second quarter of the 20th century. (Inventory of Immovable Heritage)
