The Binnenhofje in Oosterhout is a hidden courtyard behind the former Sacred Heart Church (also known as the Paterskerk). It was created in the 1980s as a creative repurposing of the vacant lot after the demolition of the church hall.

The mural was created by Gert-Jan Jansen of Huis in Stijl Schilderwerken. It was a collaboration with business owners and the building owner to brighten up the white wall. A century-old advertising poster was used as inspiration and transformed into an image that perfectly reflects Oosterhout and its "Eat First" motto. The best-known story is that Oosterhout missed out on a train station in the 19th century. When the Breda–Tilburg railway line was constructed, Oosterhout officials went to The Hague to advocate for a station. But they decided to grab a bite to eat first. Meanwhile, representatives from Rijen had already visited the ministry and were granted the station. Oosterhout was supposedly left behind.

With the arrival of the textile industry, manufacturers' houses sprang up, especially around the Heuvel. The oldest of these is Heuvel 9, dating from 1854 (or 1857?), owned by woolen fabric manufacturer A. Van den Heuvel. His factory was located on the back of the property, now a park. Van den Heuvel had several houses built on the Heuvel. The house has been renovated several times. Around 1910, it was occupied by Mr. A.J.I.M. Smits. He commissioned the installation of the 17th-century Baroque Antwerppoortje (Rubenpoortje) with a landing, which he had purchased in Breda. The park behind the house belonged to the house and was not open to the public. This was only possible after 1920 when the municipality became the owner of the land. Behind the building stood a wooden coach house. Later, the municipality used this as storage space. In 1989, it was transferred to the Brabants Museum Oud Oosterhout and now serves as part of the restaurant. Mr. Smits was born in Oosterhout on July 31, 1862, and died in Berchem (Belgium) on December 21, 1928. Antonius was a lawyer and solicitor by profession. From around 1910, he was a member of the Oosterhout Municipal Council, from 1908 to 1911 a member of the Provincial Council, and then, until 1923, of the Senate for the RKSP (predecessor of the KVP). He held many positions. For example, he was also director-owner of sugar factories: in Roosendaal, in Oosterhout (the sugar factory at Groenendijk harbor), and from 1902 co-director of the Beetroot Sugar Factory in Oud-Beijerland. In 1900, he co-founded a new limited company (N.V.) relating to the De Gekroonde Bel brewery, which had long been in the family's possession (on Heuvelstraat). In the Oosterhout population registers, he is registered at Heuvelstraat between 1890 and 1920, and only at Heuvelstraat from 1921 onwards. The exact details of this are still unclear. In 1922, the family moved to Berchem. This later became the residence of notary Lemaire. On June 9, 1971, it was registered in the National Register of Historic Buildings. Later, according to photographer Harrie Tielemans on May 5, 1967, the Amro bank was located there until the early 1980s. And in 1986, the former 'Slotje Parkzicht' was thoroughly renovated into a residence with six apartments. Source: https://oosterhouterpost.nl/onewebmedia/OP%20Jan%202021.pdf

Brakestein Castle, formerly moated. The castle has undergone numerous renovations, including two wings, a courtyard, and a residential tower. From 1835, the castle came into the possession of Baron Van Oldeneel tot Oldenzeel. This family owned the house for 150 years. The adjacent coach house now houses a restaurant.

Café Oud Brabant is one of the oldest cafés in Oosterhout. It was probably built in 1683. A steam tram used to run through Leijsenhoek. Passengers for the steam tram preferred to wait inside rather than outside. A small flag was hung on the facade to signal the driver to stop.
