Modern city with many cycle paths around the Weerwater

In some places you can see some very nice modern architecture. There is no old town in the true sense of the word, as Almere was only rebuilt about 50 years ago. Almere is now the eighth largest city in the Netherlands and is still growing rapidly. The city impresses with its consistent separation of traffic for bicycles and the rest. Almere has few or no visual, time-honored highlights or great architectural eye-catchers.

In 2024, the old Floriade site looks a bit forlorn. The site is openly accessible, but because little to nothing has happened since the end of the Floriade, large parts of the site are quite neglected and look a bit sad, unfortunately. No longer the recommendation it once was to visit here.

Almere is young and modern. The cycle highway is fantastic, where 90% of the time there is always a green phase at intersections
