The ‘heart tree’ is a romantic spot for taking photos. The willow was to be felled, but an artist asked if the bare trunk could remain to carve a heart into it – as an original peek into the nature behind it. When the heart tree started to sprout again, it was decided to let it stand. The tree is very popular with photographers, especially for wedding shoots. The hole above the heart, which was made by a great spotted woodpecker after the artwork, shows that the tree is still important for nature. It stands inconspicuously by the side of the road - a tree with a sawn heart through its trunk.

A great spot at the entrance to Lelystad Nature Park to watch otters. You can watch them from the platform above, or descend the stairs or ramp to see the otters below.

There are several viewpoints of the enclosure of the bison and Przewalski horses. If the animals cannot be seen from one of these points, try looking at the landfill near the forest. This last spot regularly hosts bison.

The Flevo landscape accommodates European otters in the enclosure that are no longer able to live in the wild due to a disability, often as a result of collisions. The otters are fed daily at 3pm. From this vantage point you are higher. The chance that you see the mouflons or red deer is not very big. If you spot them from this point, it's a lot of fun! If you don't see them, walk quietly (and quietly) through the enclosure. There is a good chance that you will see groups between the trees!
