"Falkensee Station" – a train station as a highlight. Bold. Trains stop there, people get on and off. It doesn't get much more of a train station than this. The map would probably have given it away.

At the beginning of the 20th century, a housing development for railway workers and their families was built in the Elstal district, along with the Wustermark marshalling yard. The development, built according to garden city principles, is characterized by the uniform design of the buildings on each street. At the center, there is a Protestant church on a small square. Since most of the streets are still paved with historic pavement, caution is advised.

As part of the Berlin-Spandau – Nauen expansion project (https://www.i2030.de/west/), Falkensee station is being rebuilt. The S-Bahn extension from Berlin-Spandau ends here. The existing regional train stops of Seegefeld and Albrechtshof will then be served by the S-Bahn. In the future, S-Bahn trains will run every ten minutes and offer new direct connections to all stations along the city rail network (including Westkreuz, Tiergarten, and Hackescher Markt). The establishment of accelerated express S-Bahn trains is currently being examined. For regional services, the platforms will be extended to 220 meters. This will allow for longer trains with more seats to be operated on the regional lines.

Who's putting a bike path through here? 🤦🏽 Lots of people, lots of cars. Very annoying section.

Well, it's a shopping hell, all done up nicely. However, I'm also grateful that it's here because on long trips, you can stock up on supplies at the gas station or various fast-food restaurants, and get a coffee or a snack on the way through.

The figure of TILL EULENSPIEGEL depicted here is one of those personalities whose traditional name and stories - dating back to medieval times - are still known in the collective memory today, but about whom it cannot be said with historical certainty whether they ever actually lived. It is possible that this figure is a mixture of stories handed down under the name "Till Eulenspiegel" from - originally very different - people, who then grew together over time to form the one legendary figure that we know to this day. And whether he existed or not - the main thing is: the myth lives on!

I went to see how far the Olympic Village construction project in Elstal has progressed. What I saw looks really good. Many buildings are already completely finished and occupied. When I visited the ruins 5 years ago on a tour of the local heritage association, I was more than skeptical that it would be possible to turn this museum into a residential area under monument protection conditions. I am absolutely amazed at how quickly this happened. Even for the prefabricated buildings in which the Russian officers and their families lived, I would have only demolished the wrecking ball. The buildings were all completely gutted and shortened by 1-2 floors and are now also being given a brick facade. This means that they are no longer recognizable as prefabricated buildings and their style will be adapted to the other existing buildings. I am excited to see the end result. 🤗
