Here's the closure on Corney - definitely passable by bike if you don't mind a quick hike a bike across the river whilst they repair the bridge here - means Corney is lovely and clear of traffic for the foreseeable future!

Often get confused mobile operators welcoming you to local roaming charges here on the Westernmost road pass in the Lakes - great views down to the Irish Sea beyond

In 1876, A J Woodhouse opened the Barrow Brick Company brickworks on Walney Road, Barrow, where ASDA now sits. The Barrow Brick Company remained there until 1972. Hundreds of these bricks - used to build many homes in the local area - now litter the beach at Selker Bay.

Buck Barrow is a 549m fell in the Lake District National Park. A cairn on a rock marks the summit. In sharp contrast to its neighbour Burn Moor, the summit is a series of rock turrets that pierce sharply upwards like bristly pinnacles. It reminded me of an extremely toned down version of the Glyders in Snowdonia from some angles.

Burn Moor has a big rounded summit at 543m. We approached it from Whitfell and it barely felt like we'd reascended much at all, it was very gradual over easy grassy terrain. It has a very understated summit cairn with views to Duddon sands and the southern Lakeland mountains.

Whitfell is a 1,880-foot (573 m) hill in the Lake District National Park. Its summit is marked by a very large cairn with a storm shelter off the side. There is also a trig pillar on the summit plateau. Alfred Wainwright described the walking of these fells as 'unexciting' but 'its demerits are fully compensated by the excellence of the views'. This made this fell a perfect one to walk in the wake of the corona virus pandemic. Nobody else around, carefree easy walking but marvellous views across south west Lakeland. Bliss!
