A nice viewpoint and first place where the road noise finally dies away when climbing up from the A702 - the guidebooks tell me this is thought to have been the base of a Christian cross and people leave coins and other charms in the recess in the stone .

Castlelaw Fort was home to an Iron Age community. There are a series of ditches and ramparts that would have formed a strong defence. The earth house which is known as a souterrain is of particular interest although it's actual use is not known.

Good if you are coming by car. Not great if you are leaving/arriving by bike, it leads to a busy road without designated cycling space.
