Beautiful gravel track running alongside the Abhainn a’Ghlinne Mhoir water in Alladale Nature Reserve. Enjoy being surrounded by vast hillsides and the purple heather which dots the landscape. The surface is good quality gravel.

Here you’ll find an information board with well-presented information on Alladale. Alladale Wilderness Reserve, spanning 23,000 acres in the Scottish Highlands, was acquired in 2003 by conservationist Paul Lister. His vision is to restore a wooded landscape and reintroduce native animals, including predators like the Scottish wildcat and wolf. The reserve, managed as a private nature reserve, prioritizes biodiversity and aims to boost tourism. Inspired by South Africa's successful game reserves, Lister envisions creating a picturesque area where European wolves can be released into a controlled environment, similar to successful land restoration efforts in South Africa.

Grandiose! I cycled through these places with my mouth open in amazement. In this gigantic wilderness reserve of around 100 square km, efforts are being made to restore the original Scottish landscapes.
