Tips from the Community

Karsten
October 11, 2026, Culloden Battlefield Clan Graves and Memorial Cairn

Among the most important Jacobite clans at Culloden were the Cameron, Fraser, MacDonald, Murray, Drummond, MacLean, and Stewart of Appin. On the government side, the Argyll Militia – largely composed of men of the Clan Campbell – formed the most significant Scottish clan contingent. Many clans fielded fighters for both sides, and some were internally divided. Culloden was not simply a confrontation between Highland and Lowland, but a civil war within Scotland that ran across clans, families, and communities.

October 11, 2026, Culloden Battlefield

The Culloden battlefield marks the site of the last pitched battle fought on British soil. On 16 April 1746, Bonnie Prince Charlie and his Jacobites made their final attempt to regain the throne of Great Britain. Although the Jacobites had been successful in the preceding battles of the conflict, their mission at Culloden was doomed from the start: in less than an hour, the Jacobite cause came to a swift end. 1,600 men lost their lives.
