Terraces of Lavaux

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

From St. Saphorin to Lutry there is an official hiking trail on the lower part of the slope, which is also a cycle path and leads partly all the way down to Lake Geneva (this section) and there is also an official hiking trail at the very top by the terraces that leads right to the railway line. The upper hiking trail is not really suitable for cyclists in the area of the railway line, neither for strollers nor for mountain bikes 🤷. For the lower hiking trail, I recommend hiking the area between Epesses train station and the village of Cully directly by the lake and not staying on the hiking trail a little higher up. The lake promenade is a welcome change.

The two hiking trails at completely different heights are ideal for a circular hike and can be reached at any time via the many winegrowers' roads running across them, depending on the desired length of the tour. The most common grape variety is "Chasselas", which I really like 😋😊.

The Via Francigena also passes here, more precisely the bs2 stage from Lausanne to Villeneuve: From Lausanne and the port of Ouchy, you stay close to the lake until Lutry. We then gain altitude to cross the magnificent Lavaux vineyard, listed as a UNESCO heritage site. The view is breathtaking over the lake to the Alps! We then go back down through the town of Vevey to reach the lakeside again and then the town of Montreux.

Perhaps because Willem VS's text was originally written in German as indicated by the "translated with Google" at the end of his comment...

I recommend the high pass and a stop in Granvaux. The route is through the vineyards, with exceptional views and respect for the farm workers. Little traffic, some steep climbs, but we arrive with enthusiasm. In Granvaux, a "Corto Maltaise" village, take the time to go to the restaurant terraces and enjoy an ice cream: with the view, it has a different flavor!

Hello, I am surprised by the name used for your route called weinroute. This is located in the heart of Lavaux. Wine region of the canton of Vaud in French-speaking Switzerland. We speak french. So why not title the route vineyard route as in the photo. I don't think the routes in Bordeaux have names in German!

Bourg-en-Lavaux is a municipality in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland. It is located in the Lavaux-Oron district and is part of the beautiful Lavaux area, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2007. The municipality was created in 2011 after the merger of the former municipalities of Cully, Grandvaux, Riex, Aran-Villette and Epesses. Here is a view of the Route de la Corniche.

The Lavaux vineyard terraces are located on the shores of Lake Geneva in Switzerland. They were built by monks in the 12th century and cover approximately 800 hectares. The terraces are built on steep slopes and are supported by stone walls that provide protection against erosion. The area is known for its beautiful views over Lake Geneva and the Alps, and for the production of quality wines, mainly white wine made from the Chasselas grape. The Lavaux Vineyard Terraces are also included in the UNESCO World Heritage List for their cultural and landscape value. The terraces are still worked by local winegrowers and the tradition of winemaking has been continued here for centuries. Visitors can explore the Lavaux vineyard terraces via hiking trails and enjoy wine tastings at local wineries. The area attracts many tourists every year who come to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the delicious wines.
