October 31, 2025, Marienkapelle bei Derching

The Chapel of Our Lady in Derching is located directly on Frechholzhauser Straße between Derching and Frechholzhausen and is a pink-painted chapel with a metal roof. Its history dates back to the 19th century, when the widowed innkeeper Maria Anna Kastl, from a family of innkeepers who had been established in Derching for generations, commissioned the chapel's construction to express her religious devotion and create a place of peace and reflection. The chapel is situated at the edge of the forest and is part of the Derching Meditation Trail, a circular route of approximately 12 kilometers that begins at the parish church of the Immaculate Conception and leads past the Derching bathing lake and through the Derching Forest before returning to the village center. The Meditation Trail was opened in 2022 and is maintained by the city of Friedberg. The chapel is also a popular starting point for hikers who, when the Föhn wind is blowing, can enjoy a magnificent view of the Alps.

The church has a rich history. Over the past 500 years, it has been rebuilt several times, partially demolished, and rebuilt. Today, it boasts an altarpiece depicting the martyrdom of Saint James. Four impressive figures of saints stand to the sides of the altar: Sebastian, Wendelin, Catherine, and Barbara. Looking upwards, you'll discover Saint James again in the ceiling painting. There, he appears as a refuge for those seeking help, a reminder of the spiritual significance of this place.
