„The forest has long been more than just a place of tranquility,“ it says on the accompanying WDR website for the documentary „New Paths! How do we make the forest fit for the future?“ as part of the science program »Quarks«. Our expectations of the forest and its survival problem are outlined with the words: „It should be an oasis for recreation and a supplier of raw materials, a climate saver and a habitat for countless animal and plant species; however, climate change, drought, and pests are severely affecting the ecosystem.“ The mentioned film contribution is available for the nature-interested viewer at the following link =>> https://www.ardmediathek.de/video/quarks/neue-wege-wie-machen-wir-den-wald-fit-fuer-die-zukunft/wdr/Y3JpZDovL3dkci5kZS9CZWl0cmFnLXNvcGhvcmEtYjQyNzNiYWQtMzE3MS00NmMyLWI3OGYtMjU2ZDkyYmEzODAz

This is an experimental area for a future forest. The project was started in 2022, but I doubt it will work out with sessile oaks and silver firs.... I fear they won't manage with the warming we are getting.

Cozy practical shelter, we found enough space for four people with four wheels.

Every time I pass by here, I wonder who takes so many spray cans so far into the forest to deface a shelter!

After many forests were destroyed by storms and bark beetles, this project aims to create a new forest experience for us and especially for future generations. A fantastic idea and a very well-maintained facility!

Gut Umschoß is beautifully situated, and the surroundings, including the house, are beautiful. However, I always drive past it, as there's a better place for a break after the descent further down.

The view is wonderful, and depending on which direction you're coming from, it's a real reward for the climb. The only thing missing is a little shade, and in summer the benches get very hot.
