Now I was finally here. A truly beautiful place. While I was sitting there writing a sentence in the bank book, an elderly couple (both over 80) approached me. They had already written something in it and said that this was now the only bank here. They took 6,500 steps a day. And she started learning to play the piano at 85. She doesn't want to live forever, just make the most of it. This lady really impressed me. Thank you @Dolle, without you, this short conversation wouldn't have happened.

A short break and/or a shelter in case of rain.

Old Post Bridge/Napoleon Bridge The formerly busy postal route Hamburg - Lüneburg - Braunschweig led through the marshy Mühlenbach valley, so that a bridge and a causeway were necessary. In 1789, King George III of England and Elector of Hanover had the bridge built from bricks and granite stones. It's great that this historic bridge, worth seeing, has survived all these years and has been preserved to this day. https://heimatverein-ashausen.de/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Ashausen-Rundweg-A.pdf

Long planned...and now finally put into action. I've had Dolle's bank on my list for a long time and today I took advantage of the very best cycling weather and made my way to Dolle's "famous" bank and even signed the bank book in my scrawly handwriting, which is actually the same as opening a formal account and it was worth it. The bank is clearly visible on the side of the road in beautiful nature, invites you to take a rest and the bank book, which is well secured against water, is interesting to read. Great idea and very well implemented. Many thanks to Dolle for this great idea. A worthwhile destination, even for a day bike ride along the Elbe, like I did today. If you don't know Dolle yet, here is a link to his very interesting Komoot profile and there to his excellent YouTube profile: https://www.komoot.com/de-de/user/206514045736

I was at the pond in mid-August 2024 - there were lots of animal tracks on the bank - it also smelled of deer or similarly large animals - there must be something going on here when it gets dark and lots of animals come to drink!

Large parking lot in the middle of Buchwedel. Good starting point for a hike. The nature trail also starts here.

The little bit of water is a bit off the path and in my opinion nature should be left to nature here.
