The Løgumklosters monastery church is one of the most impressive buildings in Denmark. Similar to Bad Doberan, only part of the original four-winged monastery complex has been preserved in Løgumkloster. The monastery church of Løgumkloster is a three-aisled brick basilica, which shows the transition from the Romanesque to the Gothic style due to its long construction period. The Romanesque elements include the arched windows in the east. The rich furnishings of the sacred building go back above all to the 14th to 16th centuries. The altar dates from the 15th century. The preserved part of the east wing of the monastery complex with dormitory and chapter house dates from the third quarter of the 13th century. It connects to the south of the transept of the church. After the Reformation, the monastery buildings were demolished. In 1614 the stones were used to build the neighboring hunting lodge. Today there is a church music school and the training center of the Danish Folkekirke, among other things, on the monastery grounds. https://www.eurob.org/item/logumkloster_kloster/

The monastery church at Løgum is, along with the monastery church at Sorø, one of the most beautiful and significant church buildings from the Danish Middle Ages. The church was built as the northern wing of a large monastery complex of the Cistercian order. Today the church is the parish church of Løgumkloster parish. Around 1173 the white monks, the Cistercians, came to the area around the Brede Au to found a monastery here. This place was chosen very deliberately: a rural location with many watercourses and large forests. Here agriculture, fishing and milling could be operated advantageously. Medicinal herbs and new vegetables such as parsley, rhubarb and carrots flourished in the monastery garden. The monks called the place "Locus Dei", the place of God. In the church of Nørre Løgum, which has been rebuilt many times, preaching has been carried out in German and Danish for centuries. It was the only parish church in the area until the Cistercian church at Løgum Kloster also became a parish church in 1739. Originally the church of Nørre Løgum was probably South Jutland's oldest brick building, built around 1200 and related to the large Romanesque church in Ringsted on Zealand. Mary is undeniably the focus of interest, because four depictions of Mary from this church came to the Flensburg Museum in 1901. https://1488286025.jimdofree.com/7-norderl%C3%BCgum/

Løgumkloster developed into a popular market place. The place made a name for itself beyond the borders with the production of elaborate lace and lavish clothing for the fine and rich society. With the war of 1864 and the victory of the Prussians over Denmark, Løgumkloster came to the then German district of Tondern. The community retained its importance as a market place, but industry hardly settled. https://weites.land/klosterlogum-luegumkloster/
