When Denmark was defeated by Prussia in 1864, Denmark lost a third of its territory. Southern Jutland became German, and the new border ran south around Kolding, along the Kongeåen River, and south around Ribe. The Border Trail follows this border from the Wadden Sea to the Kongeåen River. Along the way, stories are told of gendarmes, border crossers, customs officials, smugglers, and pro-Danish South Jutlanders in German military service. The trail is divided into three stages: from Vester Vedsted to Høm, from Høm to Obbekær, and from Obbekær to the Kongeåen River. The route stretches along paved roads with wide ditches, field paths, and forest trails. You can take a circular walk at several locations, and there are shelters for overnight stays. Dogs must be kept on a leash. The trip can be extended along the way to other hiking or cycling trails. The trail can be extended to other hiking or cycling trails. Source: www.grenzpfad.dk
