From 1953-1996 the observatory in Brorfelde in the Sjællandske Alper was a living place for astronomers, students, craftsmen and other co-workers. The observatory was built to escape the light pollution in Copenhagen, where the former observatory in the middle of the city was located in the Botanical Garden. That is why dobbelte hedges were laid around the employees' dwellings to prevent the light from the houses interfering with the overseerments in the dark season. When the observatory was opened, the telescopes installed there were world leaders in technology. In the course of further development, the observatory lost its importance and was relocated to Chile.
