June 28, 2026, Meilgaard Castle

Schloss Meilgaard is a historic manor house on the Djursland peninsula in eastern Jutland, Denmark. The striking white castle, which dates back to 1573 in its core, is located in a picturesque forest and nature landscape near Glesborg. The castle itself is privately owned and actively used for forestry and agriculture. Therefore, the interiors cannot be visited. However, the beautifully landscaped Meilgaard Slotspark is accessible to the public. You can take wonderful walks here and admire the estate from the outside. The historic restaurant Meilgaard Slotskro is located on the grounds, offering Danish cuisine in a stately ambiance.

October 30, 2025, Hemmed Church

Built from rough fieldstones and granite blocks, this Romanesque church from the 12th to 13th centuries impresses with its 16th-century porch and crenellated gables, as well as a copy of Thorvaldsen's Christ figure on the altar. Its location in Glesborg invites you to explore the historic walls and use it as a base for other highlights such as the Sankt Gertruds Sti – a pilgrimage route through Djursland. Combine your visit with a trip to the nearby harbor town of Bønnerup or the city of Grenaa for a diverse experience of nature and culture.

You are not allowed into the inner courtyard of the actual castle as it is privately owned. However, you can take a lovely stroll around the park and get great views of the castle and the moat from there!

The rest area is certainly very nice, especially in summer. Now in autumn the reeds are much higher and the jetty to the beach has been dismantled --> access to the beach is not possible here! The beach access further towards Bønnerup is also not usable in autumn because the jetty has also been dismantled and the strip of reeds is under water

The piers will be dismantled in autumn! Access to the beach on dry feet will then only be possible with rubber boots, as the strip of reeds is filled with water
