Speech by Angie Heinze at the handover of the sculpture to the community on February 18, 2018 Many of you have asked us or may be asking yourself: what does this mean? “Pearl of memory”? The area we are in is the former Swabian Sea. There are many finds from that period, the Jurassic, 150 million years ago: e.g. in Holzmaden or in Nattheim near Aalen. The fossilization of a small sea urchin was found there, for the biology and Latin lovers among you - the Plegiocitaris cervicalis - it originally brought us to this one Sculture inspired. We live on a timeline that we rise and fall on. The moment is our vehicle on this journey of life. The ancestors who illustrated their part of the route before us are connected to us in a wonderful way. When we look back, we see memories that flash like they are strung on a pearl necklace. Beautiful, bright moments, children, laughter - and also moments full of darkness. Falling in love and having to say goodbye, changing, developing. These are the pearls of memory. Pearls have always been considered gifts from the gods. For the Romans they were fruits of the love goddess Venus; the ancient Greeks believed that they were formed from drops of dew falling from the sky on a full moon night; for the Persians they were the tears of the gods and for the Polynesians the pearls were gifts from the god of peace Oro, who descended to earth on a rainbow. The pearl stands for beauty, perfection and uniqueness like no other product. There is no pearl like the other, no duplicates. Each has its own character, its own life. And: it grows into a shiny treasure in the darkness of the shell. As soon as a grain of sand gets inside, a coat of mother-of-pearl surrounds this grain.
