Hörnli Hut (Matterhorn Base Camp)

Highlight • Mountain Hut

If you have time and alpine experience in rocky terrain, it is worth climbing up to the Hörnli Hut, possibly with an overnight stay, to try out hut life. It is fun even without climbing the Matterhorn.
Unfortunately, the Hörnli Hut is often fully booked for months.

From here you have a really nice view of the Matterhorn. If there is still no wind, you can still see the Matterhorn reflected in the lake.

Bishorn Summit

Highlight • Summit

Very nice, rarely full of people and fairly easy hike. Just before the cabin you'll need to do a bit of climbing and use chains. About 4-5 hours to the Tracuit hut, then breakfast at 5:00 and 2-3 hours to reach the summit. You can be back in time for an epic rösti at the hut. Lastly, all the way down to Zinal on the West side, walk past the water, it's a change of scenery and you'll reach a lovely meadow for a quick nap.

By train to the Unterrothorn, then down to Furggji. There begins the trail adventure: Over the northeastern flank of the Unterrothorn on the Banani Trail and on to the entrance of the Europaweg. It leads bikers along the slope with a consistently great view, before heading down the valley in wide bends to Täsch. At Täsch you can camp cheap.

Great place to enjoy some lovely food/beverages with magnificent and iconic views. The route leading up to the Hörnlihütte can be challenging if it is icy, so be prepared with the right equipment in any case.

Challenging terrain, especially if it is wet/icy, but the Hörnlihütte is a great reward for mastering the terrain :)

Amazing view of the surrounding peaks from here. The route to get there is steep, but you can shorten it if you want with the lift :)

Everyone wants to take the perfect photo, but you can only do that if you're lucky - when the sun is shining, it's not raining and the summit is clear of clouds. We were lucky and we're over the moon!
