Schöneberg Castle is owned by the Count of Reinhausen. • from 1122 Hermann II of Winzenburg, son of the daughter Elli of the last Reinhausener, builds Schonenburg Castle on Schöneberg. 1151 Hermann of Winzenburg places the completed castle under the protection of the powerful Archbishop of Mainz, the lord of the nearby town of Hofgeismar, by handing the castle over to Mainz and simultaneously receiving it back as a fief. 1152 After the murder of Hermann of Winzenburg, Schonenberg Castle is transferred to the Lords of Eberschütz. 117 The new lords of the castle now call themselves "von Schöneberg." 1206 The Schönebergs attain the greatest power and wealth through a Paderborn fief, which grants them the Reinhardswald (then extensive) with full hunting and fishing rights. 1249 After a feud between Conrad II of Schöneberg and Paderborn, the Schönebergs lost their castle. Conrad sold his possessions to Hesse, but the castle was unable to be held permanently. 1303 During one of the numerous military conflicts between the Archbishopric of Mainz and other territorial lords, troops of the Bishop of Paderborn conquered the Schöneberg. 1312 Duke Albrecht II of Brunswick, seeking to expand his power in the south, conquered the Schöneberg (and the Trendelburg Castle of the Eberschütz-Schonebergs). Arch-court troops from Mainz and Hofgeismar successfully besieged the Schonenburg. The rights to the Schöneberg were divided between Mainz and Braunschweig. 1318 As a consequence of the experiences of the previous decades, half of the Schonenburg Castle was acquired for Hofgeismar. The castle became part of the defense plan of the Mainz town of Hofgeismar, surrounded by Hessian, Brunswick, and Paderborn territories. 1324 In a legal dispute, arbitrators rule against Hesse and finally award the castle to Mainz. 1335 With the Zappenborch (Zapfenburg, now Sababurg), which had been newly constructed the previous year, with Haldessen Castle (southeast of Hofgeismar, now disappeared), and with Malsburg Castle, the castle on the Schöneberg becomes part of Mainz's defensive ring around Hofgeismar. 1354 Mainz cedes half of Zapfenburg Castle to Hesse; the noble lords of Schöneberg take over the other half as a fief. 1356 The rapprochement of the Schöneberg family with the strengthened Landgrave of Hesse leads to a feud between the Archbishop of Mainz and the Counts of Schöneberg. 1373 Contractual assurance that the town of Hofgeismar and the Schöneberg Castle may never again be separated by sale or pledging. 1401 Failed siege of the city of Hofgeismar (see the Dice Tower legend) by the Hessians and Brunswickers; the Archbishop takes the other half of the Schöneberg from Brunswick and

One of the best descents in the area! If you blast from the top to the bottom in one go, it's a strenuous ride - but also just as awesome! If you let it go, you can also pick up the pace ☺️🤗🙆🏻‍♂️
