Since my last visit to Corona dei Pinci in 2023, work has been done on the trail, so the paths are well maintained. 👍 Thanks to the shovel team! 👏

After the Rasa Trail https://www.komoot.com/de-de/highlight/133646, after a little refreshment in the grotto of Rasa, this trail (Rasa-Bordei) follows. You absolutely have to keep left at the first junction (Bordei is signposted). It is very difficult to ride at the beginning, if not impossible. But then (as cadillac55555 mentioned before me) it gets a lot better, even wide and flowing - a lot of investment has been made, improvements made and made safer...

Complicated route, identified as S1, but in some points the path becomes difficult to find even with the Komoot track.

Trail is NOT S1. More like S3 most of the way. If you can't ride solid S2/S3 be prepared to spend more time walking then riding. Quite nice Trail. Everything is rideable.

Nice alternative ascent/entrance to the 396 route from Cardada. As soon as you pass under the chairlift, a flowing S1 section follows until you cross the 396 route, then S1/S2 to the Alpe. From there, take the left forest path and you are at the end of the 396 ascent along the road. Will this be part of the new Cardada feeder trail? At least in the future it will lead over this Alp to the Bassa di Cardada and then down to the Cabanna Lo Stallone.

Since I took the partially drivable hiking trail from S2 to S3 as a shortcut (50% drivable), I can only speak for the second part of this route. Machines were used to work on the path here and from my point of view it is now only an S1 at most! Which was a very welcome innovation.

Here is the now famous Piana di Vigezzo, a meeting point for many bikers and the starting point for some Enduro and Downhill descents. Find all the info here https://pianadivigezzo.it/

The first part reminds me of Sepultura's most famous song. The last part I dub the Stair Master. The part in-between was fun enough. (beginning mountainbiker on hardtail, first ever mountain descent)

Onsernone offers a rugged and picturesque natural landscape for mountain biking. You'll find challenging natural trails winding through untamed valleys, dense forests, and traditional villages. The experience is immersive, focusing on adventure and scenic beauty rather than groomed tracks. Expect a mix of steep climbs, flowing sections, and rugged paths, often requiring good fitness and advanced skills.
While Onsernone is renowned for its natural mountain biking trails, it does not typically host traditional 'bike parks' with constructed features like jumps, drops, or lift access. However, areas like Piana di Vigezzo are popular meeting points for bikers and serve as starting points for Enduro and Downhill descents, offering great views over the valley.
For experienced riders, the Difficult Singletrack Trail is rated S3 for most of its length, requiring solid S2/S3 riding skills. Another challenging option is the Corona dei Pinci Trail, which becomes demanding (up to S3) and technical after passing the ridge below Corona dei Pinci, featuring roots and steep steps. The Rasa–Bordei Trail also has sections rated S2 to S3.
Yes, the Cardada–Vegnasca Trail is an intermediate option. It features a flowing S1 section after passing under the chairlift, leading to an S1/S2 section towards the Alpe. This trail offers a nice alternative for those seeking a less extreme but still engaging ride.
The terrain in Onsernone is diverse. You can expect a mix of steep climbs, flowing sections on asphalt roads alongside streams, and rugged paths through wild valley floors. Some routes also feature gravel paths, rocky sections, and technical, rooted singletracks. Be prepared for varied conditions that reflect the region's untamed natural beauty.
The trails offer breathtaking views of the untamed Onsernone Valley and lead through well-preserved traditional villages nestled on high terraces. Highlights like Piana di Vigezzo offer great panoramic views over the valley. You'll also pass through dense forests and along rivers, experiencing the region's unspoiled natural beauty.
The best time to visit Onsernone for mountain biking is generally during the warmer months, from spring through autumn. This period offers more favorable weather conditions, with less chance of snow at higher elevations and more stable trail conditions. Always check local weather forecasts before heading out, as conditions can change rapidly in mountainous regions.
Beyond mountain biking, the Onsernone region offers a variety of outdoor activities. You can explore numerous running trails, such as the 'Pioda Chapel – Trail through the waterfall loop from Maggia' or the 'Curved Suspension Bridge loop from Maggia'. There are also extensive cycling routes, including the 'Bridge Over the Maggia – View of Maggia loop from Someo', and challenging mountain hikes like the 'Monte Limidario Summit (2,189 m) loop'. For more details, refer to the guides on Running Trails around Onsernone, Cycling around Onsernone, and Mountain Hikes around Onsernone.
Onsernone is primarily known for its challenging natural trails, many of which require advanced skills. While some routes may have easier sections, the region's overall character leans towards demanding terrain. For more accessible options, look for routes described as 'medium difficulty' or those that incorporate paved or gravel sections, such as parts of the routes through Valle Onsernone and Valle di Vergeletto that pass through charming villages.
Visitors highly appreciate the immersive natural experience and the stunning scenery. The challenging nature of the trails, combined with breathtaking views over untamed valleys and traditional villages, makes for a memorable adventure. The community also values the diverse terrain, from technical singletracks to flowing paths, and the opportunity to explore a wild and intact environment.
Yes, the 'Giro ad anello nella Val Orsenone' (Onsernone Valley Loop) is a notable difficult 16-mile mountain biking loop. It features rugged terrain, traditional villages, and views of untamed nature. Key points of interest along this loop include the Maggia River Swimming Lagoon, the Suspension Bridge Over the Melezza, and the historic Ponte Antico di Intragna.
