January 25, 2025, Hanging Garden (Glen Canyon National Recreation Area)

This sheltered cove is home to a hanging garden, an interesting feature to see in the rocky Glen Canyon. A hanging garden is formed when a water source reaches an impermeable layer of rock and can no longer move downwards. The water then moves sideways across the rock and once it reaches the wall of a canyon, it seeps out of the rock. If there is an overhang that prevents the water from evaporation quickly, it creates an environment where plants can grow on the rock wall and on the ground below.

Lower Antelope Canyon is slightly longer and less busy that the more well known Upper section of the canyon. That being said you still need to book a guided tour in order to enter the canyon so be sure to get that taken care of early so you don't miss out.

Similar to the Wave, the New Wave is a sandstone formation that is intriguing because of how undulating and colorful the rock is. It was originally formed by water erosion and is now being eroded solely by the wind. While the Wave now requires a permit to visit, the New Wave does not have these restrictions, so is a good option if you are in Page.

December 14, 2022, Cardiac Canyon

The Cardiac Canyon can only be booked exclusively via the following address: https://www.antelopecanyon-x.com/cardiac-canyon-tour/ It is not cheap, but in my opinion it is worth every cent and had the following advantage in 2022: The group size is kept very small with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 people per tour. There are no other groups in the canyon at the same time. It is a very long canyon with a wide variety of structures. You can stay in the canyon for up to 6 hours over a length of about 4 km. You can work with a tripod and you have plenty of time to take fantastic pictures undisturbed and without time pressure. (Unfortunately I didn't have my tripod with me because of excess baggage) The guides are very patient and helpful. The disadvantage and downside for the long duration and small group is the price of $256/person plus tip. Great reports with breathtaking pictures can be found here: https://firefallphotography.com/cardiac-canyon-the-new-antelope-canyon-for-photographers https://expeditionswithevelyn.com/best-cardiac-canyon-travel-guide A good video about the development can be found here: https://youtu.be/_Ehowavrmnw
