Nice steep descent and climb. The Leemcule is also popular as a children's playground. Mountain bikers can go wild in the adjacent MTB cross track (freely accessible). The water of the Leemcule is quite dirty. No suitable drinking water for the dog. You can do that better at one of the many streams in Landgoed Molecaten.

My favorite route, especially because much has been made possible on a fairly flat terrain. This route is well maintained by many volunteers and has become more beautiful over the years.

This has now become my favorite route; not too far from home, usually in tip top condition, because the route is very well maintained. Just a fun route to drive regularly.

I ride this MTB route myself very regularly. You can alternate by, for example, starting from a different parking lot, so that the different parts are more at the beginning or more at the end of your lap. You can also choose whether or not, or half of the extra loop, which, in addition to a beautiful winding single track, also has various TTFs (technical trail features). Not very difficult, but you can choose to bypass them; So-called "chicken runs" have been created for this purpose. In the summer you could even choose to park at the swimming pond so that you can take a refreshing dip after your round. What is also very nice is that the builders have given the various pieces names.

Zwolle primarily offers diverse mountain biking trails through heathlands, forests, and riverine landscapes. While traditional large-scale bike parks are not prominent, the city is developing a new pumptrack, and the surrounding area provides ample opportunities for off-road cycling for various skill levels.
Yes, there are trails suitable for different skill levels. For an easier option, the 35.8 km IJssel Bridge Zwolle–Hattem – Veetcaterdijk Cycle Path loop offers scenic cycle paths along the IJssel river. The MTB Hospital Zwolle trail is also described as very easy, suitable for maintaining fitness.
For a more challenging experience, the Ennerveld – unpaved climb offers a fun challenge on a soft sand path, suitable for mountain bikes and gravel bikes. The Zwolse Bos Singletrack is also considered a moderate ride requiring good fitness and advanced skills. The Westerveldse Bos Mountain Bike Route, though short, provides challenging climbs and steep descents due to its unique terrain.
A significant development is the planned pumptrack in Ittersumpark in Zwolle-Zuid. This facility will feature a paved track with rollers and banked turns, designed for riders to generate momentum without pedaling. It will be accessible for all ages and skill levels, accommodating BMX bikes, mountain bikes, skateboards, scooters, and roller skates, with construction potentially starting in spring 2026.
The MTB Route Staphorst is highly popular, known for its fast single tracks and varied paths with nice cornering sections. Another unique option is the Westerveldse Bos Mountain Bike Route, built on a former landfill, offering exciting climbs and descents over 20-meter elevation changes.
The trails around Zwolle traverse diverse natural scenery including heathlands, dense forests, and picturesque riverine landscapes along the IJssel. You can also visit De Leemkule, a large pit formed by clay excavation, which now features a pool of water and is a family-friendly spot.
Visitors frequently praise the well-maintained and enjoyable routes, highlighting the diverse natural scenery and varied challenges. The fast single tracks and good cornering sections, such as those found at MTB Route Staphorst, are often mentioned. The option to swim after a ride near the Curvy Singletrack Segment is also a popular tip.
Yes, besides mountain biking, you can find various outdoor activities. For hiking, explore routes like the Sassenpoort – Academy House, Grote Kerk loop. Gravel biking is also popular, with routes such as the Heathland Zwolse Forest – Ennerveld loop available.
While you can cycle freely in the municipal forests of Zwolle and the forest areas of Geldersch Landschap, it is prohibited to cycle freely in the Municipal Forests of Heerde. In Heerde, you are only allowed to cycle on official cycle paths and designated MTB routes, such as those near Singletrack to the Sprengen (Veluwe).
Ride durations vary depending on the trail. For example, the popular Zwolse Bos Singletrack – Heathland Zwolse Forest loop, which is 45.4 km, typically takes about 3 hours and 9 minutes to complete. Shorter routes like the Westerveldse Bos Mountain Bike Route can be completed much faster, offering a quick but intense workout.
The Curvy Singletrack Segment offers a beautiful winding single track with various technical trail features (TTFs). While not overly difficult, there are 'chicken runs' available to bypass them if preferred, making it accessible for different skill levels.
