Verdon Gorge to Lake Sainte-Croix

Highlight • Lake

The Gorges de Verdun are a very popular place of natural beauty in France. You don't need to go in the water to enjoy this pearl. Nearby roads and bridges provide stunning views of the gorge below.

How amazing this place is.
You should already have a basic level of fitness. Sturdy shoes can also do no harm, as well as a sufficient amount of water. But the effort is rewarded. If you are down at the bridge and walk over it, you know what you did it for ...
As a reward, you can have a picnic on a beach and cool your feet in the very cold Verdon ...
After a really strenuous ascent, you can enjoy cold drinks in the panorama restaurant with a fantastic view of the valley !!;)))

Blanc-Martel trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

We did this tour according to the description of outdooractive.com/mobile/en/hiking/provence-alpes-cote-d-azur/by-die-verdonschlucht-bei-rougon/18068158 in July 2018 - simply fantastic.

The route profile is flawed thanks to GPS dropouts: 550 meters 15 km in length including 2 tunnels just before the ascent to Point Sublime. (Do not forget flashlights)

The taxi from the Auberge du Sublime to the Chalet de la Maline also worked well (because we were too late for the regular bus, see below for "timetable" and taxi numbers).

You should also have enough water with you, because there are no stops or opportunities for short cuts - and at the water you can always treat yourself to a quarter of an hour break.

taxis:
0492342290 or 0668181313 (reservation required, but we also worked directly on site, it was the previously driven minibus)
0615160121
0611269731 or 0492836162
Bus:
8:45 am or from 13.7.-21.8. 8:15 o'clock

Verdon Gorge

Not as spectacular as the ravines a few kilometers up the river, but also the river dammed here in the wild landscape is worth a hike.

The Penitents of Les Mées

Highlight (Segment) • Natural Monument

The spectacular Pénitents were sculpted by erosion in the pudding, a rock made up of pebbles torn from the Alps during their elevation and dumped here by rivers over a period ranging from 2 to 12 million years. Legend has it that these are monks who were petrified because they turned around when beautiful Moorish women passed by...

Col du Défens (1,230 m)

Highlight • Mountain Pass

One of my favorite passes (1,230 meters) in this region that I know well. A good quality road, very little traffic, magnificent scenery and a very accessible climb on both sides.

Beautiful hike, but very crowded. Bring plenty of water, as there are no drinking water sources.

The turquoise lake is a real alternative to the sea. The absolute highlight is the beginning of the Verdon Gorge, which you can explore by canoe, pedal boat, or electric boat for about 1.5 km.

The fifteen-kilometre-long Blanc-Martel trail begins at this point with a bang. The steep, technical terrain to reach the heights of the Verdon is sure to delight hiking enthusiasts.

The route is breathtakingly beautiful and the climb is pleasant to ride. At the beginning of October, when many campsites are already closed, there is not much traffic.
