Unfortunately, it was almost impossible for us to ride, a heavy storm with lightning directly above us and a lot of water under the bike made the descent a dangerous adventure. 😬😇

Attention! There is a very dangerous section and is not suitable for e-MTBs. I recommend trying it only to those who have experience with challenging routes .practically impossible to close the loop! Trail from hell, you need to be super fit. No e-MTB!

Hello, my tip to start from the Orlang cable car.

The sign may say so. We were riding it in 2023 without any issues. The road is just steep as it can get - have fun

As the longest and most beginner-friendly trail on Plan de Corones, it connects the mountain with Olang in the valley. The youngest trail on the Plan de Corones and at the same time the easiest. The Gassl Trail - which was opened in the summer of 2015 - meanders along the eastern slope of the mountain from the middle station of the OLANG 1 + 2 gondola over countless curves down to Gassl. Slight jumps, gently sloping berms and the varied lines do not distract from the fantastic panorama and are ideal for the first freeride introductory tours.

Unfortunately a very crowded area. We were there in September and the full parking spaces upstairs are off-putting. In the high season it is not possible to drive up by car. As soon as you move away from the main paths, it becomes quieter. In particular, the plateau next to the Strudelkopf is quiet and not as crowded as the summit itself. From the meadows on the plateau you can see the Three Peaks, the Rienz Valley in front of it and the gigantic mountain world of the Dolomites.

Niederdorf - Villabassa offers an extensive network of mountain bike trails within the 3 Zinnen Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site. You'll find a diverse range of terrain, from challenging singletracks and demanding routes that are part of the Südtirol Dolomiti Superbike course, to more accessible paths. The region is known for its natural, challenging mountain biking amidst spectacular alpine scenery, rather than traditional lift-accessed bike parks.
Yes, while the region is known for challenging routes, there are options for less experienced riders. For instance, the Signature Trail — Gassl Trail is described as a beginner-friendly trail with gentle berms and varied lines, ideal for introductory freeride tours. Additionally, the area offers gentle valley cycle paths suitable for leisurely tours.
Many trails in the region offer breathtaking views. The Plätzwiese / Prato Piazza viewpoint, after an arduous ascent, provides an idyllic panorama of the surrounding Dolomites. The "Villabassa MTB circular tour" also offers panoramic views of the Braies and Sesto Dolomites, and the Trail to Lago di Braies offers great views, especially on its downhill sections.
The region is best visited during the warmer months, typically from late spring to early autumn. This period offers the most favorable weather conditions for mountain biking, with trails generally clear of snow and all services for cyclists fully operational. The Südtirol Dolomiti Superbike race, a major event, usually takes place in July, indicating good riding conditions around that time.
Absolutely. The region is well-regarded for its challenging singletrack trails. An example is the Challenging singletrack trail in Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park, which is very narrow, with ledges, large stones, and loose ground, making it suitable only for advanced users. The demanding routes of the Südtirol Dolomiti Superbike course also provide a significant challenge for experienced mountain bikers.
Niederdorf - Villabassa is well-equipped to support cyclists. You'll find bike rental stations, specialist shops, and a dedicated "Bike-Stop" in the village center. This Bike-Stop offers convenient services such as repair stations, e-charging outlets for e-bikes, and information boards to help you plan your rides.
While Niederdorf - Villabassa itself focuses on natural trails, the Red Line, Bike Park Rasen-Antholz offers a more structured bike park experience. It features different routes like the Red Line with boulders and larger jumps, a Blue Line for speed and small jumps, and a Black Line for more extreme challenges, plus a small pump track. It's recommended for both beginners and advanced riders.
Beyond mountain biking, the area around Niederdorf - Villabassa offers a variety of outdoor activities. You can explore extensive MTB Trails, enjoy Gravel Biking, or go Hiking. Popular hiking routes include the Niederdorf Wellness Loop and the Forest Therapy and Riverside Walk.
Yes, the region offers several circular routes. The "Villabassa MTB circular tour" is a notable example, providing panoramic views. For more options, you can explore routes like the "View of Lake Dobbiaco – Lake Dürrensee loop" or the "Rienz River in Bruneck – Alperia Bike Tunnel loop" which are part of the broader MTB Trails around Niederdorf - Villabassa.
Visitors frequently highlight the breathtaking scenery and the diverse riding experience. The stunning UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites provide impressive mountain panoramas.
