Since my last visit to Corona dei Pinci in 2023, work has been done on the trail, so the paths are well maintained. 👍 Thanks to the shovel team! 👏

After the Rasa Trail https://www.komoot.com/de-de/highlight/133646, after a little refreshment in the grotto of Rasa, this trail (Rasa-Bordei) follows. You absolutely have to keep left at the first junction (Bordei is signposted). It is very difficult to ride at the beginning, if not impossible. But then (as cadillac55555 mentioned before me) it gets a lot better, even wide and flowing - a lot of investment has been made, improvements made and made safer...

Since I took the partially drivable hiking trail from S2 to S3 as a shortcut (50% drivable), I can only speak for the second part of this route. Machines were used to work on the path here and from my point of view it is now only an S1 at most! Which was a very welcome innovation.

Centovalli is renowned for its extensive network of natural mountain biking trails rather than purpose-built bike parks with structured features. You'll find diverse landscapes, including picturesque side valleys, deep gorges, wild chestnut forests, and pine-covered ridges, offering a rich mountain biking adventure with significant elevation changes and technical sections.
While many trails offer technical challenges, Centovalli does provide options for various skill levels. For an easier ride, consider routes like the 18.5-kilometer 'Ponte Antico di Intragna – View of Ascona loop from Intragna', which leads through picturesque villages and offers scenic views. The Locanda Via del Rusa Trail is also an intermediate, well-maintained, and flowing route that doesn't require particular technical skills.
For experienced riders seeking a challenge, Centovalli offers several demanding trails. The S3 Trail Cardada–Sentiero Collina Alta Connection features larger stones and high ledges, providing an exciting experience. The Rasa–Bordei Trail is also very difficult at the beginning, becoming more manageable later. Additionally, the Corona dei Pinci Trail becomes much more demanding with technical driving skills required after the initial easy section.
You can enjoy incredible panoramic views from the summit of Monte Carza. The View of Lake Maggiore from Monte Carza is a popular spot accessible for cyclists, offering stunning vistas of the lake. The region itself is characterized by diverse natural settings, from remote Alpine landscapes to terraced hills, dense forests, and narrow valleys.
Yes, the Vigezzina-Centovalli Railway offers limited bicycle transport, which can be useful for connecting different sections of trails or overcoming challenging ascents. This provides flexibility for planning your routes and exploring a wider area of the region.
The region's trails are best enjoyed during the warmer months, typically from spring through autumn, when weather conditions are more stable and trails are clear of snow. Always check local weather conditions before heading out, as technical sections can become more challenging in wet conditions.
Absolutely. Centovalli and its surroundings offer a variety of outdoor activities. You can explore numerous running trails, such as the 'Pizzo Leone Trail' or 'Running loop from Terre di Pedemonte', detailed in the Running Trails around Centovalli guide. Gravel biking is also popular, with routes like the 'Panoramic Route above Brissago' found in the Gravel biking around Centovalli guide.
While Centovalli is known for its natural and often challenging terrain, some routes are more accessible. For families, consider easier trails that lead through villages or offer less elevation gain. The 'Ponte Antico di Intragna – View of Ascona loop from Intragna' is an example of a shorter, easier ride that could be suitable for families with some biking experience.
While specific amenities vary by location along the extensive trail network, you'll find villages and towns throughout Centovalli and the surrounding valleys that offer cafes, restaurants, and accommodation options. It's advisable to plan your route and check for services in the villages you intend to pass through or stay in.
Yes, the region offers several loop trails that allow you to start and end your ride in the same location. Examples include the 'Alley chiossina – Maggia River swimming spot loop from Cavigliano' for a difficult ride, or the 'Ponte Antico di Intragna – View of Ascona loop from Intragna' for an easier option. These loops provide a comprehensive way to explore the diverse scenery.
Centovalli stands out because it focuses on authentic mountain biking adventures through natural terrain. Instead of man-made features, you'll navigate through diverse natural settings, encountering technical challenges and significant elevation changes that are inherent to the landscape. This provides a more organic and exploratory riding experience.
