Sândului Hill

Highlight • Viewpoint

Such an amazing hill with many viewpoints! Just make sure:

The hike is very steep beginning close to the parking lot near Petreștii. From this point where the hike starts at the foot of Dealul Sândului, you have to follow the red circle 🔴 for 1 hr 30 minutes to 2 hours. The hike is steep on both ends, near Cabana Cheile Turzii, and near the Parking lot closer to Petreștii de Sus. Make sure to have plenty of water (1 litre to 2) as we have run out once and we were thirsty, especially when it was humid. There are no water sources/fountains on Dealul Sândului. Dogs can be in the area but are not usually found up the hill. There is a beautiful bench where you can stop for a rest under a tree, next to the big cross on the rocky hill. You will see this halfway between the hike on Dealul Sândului. Beautiful views! That’s the best part! 😍

Difficulty: Medium

Fitness Required: Strong fitness
Equipment necessary: No, we climbed this in 2 hours just with a bag and few water bottles.
Look for: Red circle
Path Inclination: Average 35-40% on Dealul Sândului.

The photos are mostly viewpoints from Dealul Sândului

If Komoot translates this place to Sand hill, it’s wrong, it’s just Sândului Hill.

Hard hike but beautiful views. Stunning landscape all round. Not for beginner hikers, but not impossible for beginners.

Rockfall is an ever-present danger in the Turzii Gorge. This somewhat macabre installation points out the risk more forcefully than any warning sign. It's a shame that one of the hikers who was "killed" by a boulder is already broken, which somewhat diminishes the illusion.

Ciucaș Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

Ciucaș Waterfall and Ciucaș Lake are small natural tourist attractions. They are located in the lower reaches of the Hășdate Valley, downstream of the famous Cheile Turzii Gorge.
The Ciucaș Waterfall is only five meters high, but it is beautiful. At its foot there is a small lake where the water flowing over the waterfall collects. During the summer heat, people from the region gather here to cool off.

The Turda Salt Mine (Salina Turda) is a former salt mine in Cluj County, Transylvania. What makes this salt mine unique is the amusement park located 120 meters underground, featuring a 20-meter-high Ferris wheel, a boat tour on the salt lake, and a miniature golf course. An amphitheater, a bowling alley, and billiard tables are also located deep underground.

Amazing gorge with many hiking trails, perfect for a weekend. Circuits are 2 hours long on each hill followed by some steep hikes. There is no need to hike a hill, it’s easy to walk through the gorge as there is no elevation gain. There are many activities here. You can ride a long zip line here, do a via ferrata, hike, camp, have a rest and look at the astounding views.
