July 5, 2026, Cerro Morrogacho

The Cerro Morrogacho is located in the foothills of the Central mountain range at the foot of the Valle del Cocora natural park. For years it has been one of the most representative scenarios of the Quindío department with an approximate height of 3450 meters above sea level. It is located 8 kilometers from the valley via a horseshoe path, with large stones, channels, and a dusty trail (when it doesn't rain). As we ascend, the panorama changes, we can appreciate the surrounding mountains, the unique endemic fauna and flora of this area. The ascent is difficult, we must have good physical condition, bring hydration, carbohydrates, windbreakers, and raincoats, as the weather at this altitude is generally unpredictable. The forest will announce the arrival at the end of our route. There we will find tree roots that hold the summit of the hill, and although it is still pending, we will have ropes as support for the ascent and descent. Upon reaching the top, the view is impressive, we will be able to appreciate (on clear days) part of the Los Nevados natural park, La Montaña farm, Acaime Natural Reserve, etc. We must also be careful and cautious when descending.

The Cerro Nutibara is one of the city's seven "guardian hills" and hosts the famous Pueblito Paisa on its summit, a faithful replica of a traditional Antioquia region village from the turn of the century. A charming museum village with a stone fountain, a white church, a town hall, a small school, and typical colonial houses with colorful balconies. From the 80-meter high summit, there is a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view of the entire Aburrá Valley and the Medellín skyline. The view is especially recommended at sunset.

The ascent to the summit of Nevado del Tolima (5,220 m), an active stratovolcano. It is considered one of the most challenging, but also most rewarding summits in the Los Nevados region. An expedition to the summit typically takes 4 to 6 days, with the pure hiking time to the summit from High Camp being approximately 6 to 8 hours.

Entry costs 20,000 pesos per person, and you'll receive a wristband upon entry. The trail crosses private property, so it's important to pay attention to your footwear: if the ground is wet, slippery, or muddy, there's a risk of falls. The path is steep, but it's well-marked, and it's impossible to get lost.
