Ehrendorf Castle looks back on a history spanning almost 600 years. It was built by the Arndorf family and was first mentioned in documents in 1427. In 1619, Ehrendorf Castle was destroyed by imperial mercenary troops. The current building and design dates from around 1619. The castle is privately owned and can therefore only be viewed from the outside. Tip: turn into a side street - you have a better view of the property from the back. Lying on the medieval road to Bohemia, the founding of Litschau, the northernmost town in Austria, goes back to a fortification by the Hirschberg noble family (confirmed in documents since 1260). The resulting Litschau Castle changed hands several times over the centuries that followed. It has belonged to the Seilern-Aspang family since 1763 and has been their main residence since they were expelled after the Second World War. It is not open to the public.
