Ligerz village center and church

Highlight • Settlement

The municipality of Ligerz, which seems to owe its name to a Roman named Ligerius, is one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Bern.
From 1120 onwards, various vineyards and houses in the municipality were donated to monasteries. At the end of the 15th century, the municipality of Ligerz, including Twann and the Tessenberg, was acquired by Bern and incorporated into the Nidau bailiwick. The municipality of Ligerz still belongs to the Nidau administrative district today. During the French Revolution at the end of the 18th century, Ligerz was French territory for a short time.

Lamboing Village Center

Highlight • Settlement

Until December 31, 2013, Lamboing was a political municipality in the administrative district of Bernese Jura in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. The former German name Lamlingen is no longer used today. On January 1, 2014, Lamboing merged with the two other former municipalities of Diesse and Prêles to form the new municipality of Plateau de Diesse.

The first written mention of the place was in 1178, when Pope Alexander III confirmed property in Lamboens to the chapter of Saint-Imier. In 1248 the spelling Lambuoons appears and in 1304 the German name Lamblingen. The place name is probably derived from the proper name Landebod. In the 13th century, the nobles of Lamboing are attested, whose lineage died out at the beginning of the 14th century. From 1423 to 1509 the place belonged to the Vaumarcus family as a fief, after which it came to the Prince-Bishopric of Basel. Around the middle of the 16th century, the Reformation was also introduced on the Montagne de Diesse. From 1798 to 1815, Lamboing belonged to France and was initially part of the Mont-Terrible department, which was merged with the Haut-Rhin department in 1800. By decision of the Congress of Vienna, the town came to the Canton of Bern in 1815, to the Erlach administrative district, and in 1846 to the new La Neuveville administrative district. At Easter 1817, almost all of Lamboing's houses were destroyed by fire. The town is mentioned by name as the residence of the criminal Gastmann in Dürrenmatt's novel The Judge and His Hangman, published in 1950.

In the town center, a few farmhouses have been preserved that date from the time after the village fire. There are still several mills on the Douanne, the oldest of which was built in 1636.

Awesome approach from Sugiez, then a further descent via Lugnorre. The view of 2-3 lakes is fantastic!

Great view over Lake Murten to the Alps or the other way around over the Seeland to the Chasseral

Beautiful view over Lake Murten to the Valais Alps and over Lake Biel to the Chasseral. If you want to see the view from Mont Vully, you should do the climb from Sugiez. Over 2.3km you have to overcome 210m of elevation with a gradient of 7-13%. For this reason alone it makes sense to roll from Sugiez ↗️ and over Lugnorre ↘️.
