At least the parking meters in the valley here accept debit cards. That wasn't the case everywhere. The castle itself is unspectacular; apart from the views of the valley, only the entrance gate is impressive. The tower itself offers almost no views, just a continuous loop of films with beautiful aerial shots.

The castle in Ojców is one of the most interesting ruins on the Trail of the Eagles' Nests, located on Castle Hill in the Ojców National Park. It was built in the 14th century on the initiative of Casimir the Great and served as a royal guardhouse. The characteristic defensive tower, entrance gate and fragments of walls, which have undergone conservation work in recent years, have survived to this day. Currently, you can visit not only the courtyard, but also the interior of the tower and the new viewing platform with a panorama of the Prądnik Valley.

Ruins of King Casimir the Great's castle (14th century). Today, the remaining fortifications, some residential quarters, a tower, and an entrance gate remain. The castle also offers beautiful views of the Prądnik Valley, with Chełmowa Góra to the south. Tickets are required to enter.

A medieval defensive fortress built in the mid-14th century by the knightly Zaklik family from Janowiec with the Syrokomla coat of arms, who also owned the Kluczwoda Castle. Over the centuries, the fortress was managed by various owners who rebuilt it in accordance with the trends of subsequent eras. Since the 19th century, the castle was surrounded by an English-style park and ponds. The entire complex was bought by the architect Jerzy Donimirski in 1997, renovated and converted into an exclusive hotel with multifunctional rooms. The reconstruction was possible, among other things: thanks to existing old photographs. Rooms can be rented in the castle, balls, knightly performances and meetings are organized here. In summer, cultural and artistic meetings are held outdoors.

This castle is not always open. During events it is of course closed to visitors. I was lucky! When the large gate is open, you can go to the ticket office on the left in the castle courtyard and buy an entrance ticket for 20 zł (as of May 2024). Several rooms are open for viewing and there is a beautiful view from the tower.

A very small castle and when I was hiking through the Jura almost every weekend, only the square tower was still intact.

While traditional medieval fortresses are not found directly in Iwanowice, the area is rich in historical manor houses and estates. The most prominent is the Dworek w Iwanowicach (Manor House in Iwanowice), a late Baroque Old Polish manor house with restored interiors and a picturesque park. The Zespół Dworski (Manor Complex) in Sieciechowice is also a listed historical monument.
Visitors frequently explore Okopy Hill and Castle Site (Ojców National Park), which was once home to Wisegrod Castle. Another popular spot is the Castle in Ojcow, a 14th-century castle with remaining fortifications and views of the Prądnik Valley. Korzkiew Castle, a renovated medieval defensive fortress, also draws many visitors.
Yes, the Dworek w Iwanowicach hosts cultural events like 'Jesienne Spotkania z Historią' (Autumn Meetings with History) and 'Majówka w Dworku' (May Picnic at the Manor House), which include historical costume displays, traditional cuisine tastings, and historical dance workshops. These events are suitable for families. Additionally, the Nature Exhibition in Ojców National Park is also considered family-friendly.
From Okopy Hill and Castle Site, you can enjoy expansive views from the high plateau. The Castle in Ojcow offers beautiful views of the Prądnik Valley. Korzkiew Castle also provides scenic vistas from its tower.
The 'Majówka w Dworku' (May Picnic) at the Dworek w Iwanowicach suggests spring is a good time for cultural events. Generally, spring and autumn offer pleasant weather for exploring the sites and their surrounding parks. The 'Jesienne Spotkania z Historią' (Autumn Meetings with History) also take place in autumn at the manor house.
Yes, there are several hiking opportunities. For example, you can find easy hikes around Ojców, including routes like the 'Ojców Castle loop from Ojców' or the 'Rękawica (The Glove) Rock Formation – Dark Cave loop from Ojców'. You can explore more options on the Easy hikes around Iwanowice guide.
Yes, the region offers cycling routes. For instance, the 'Korzkiew Castle – Smooth Descent on Rural Road loop from Iwanowice Dworskie' is a moderate road cycling route. You can find more cycling options in the Road Cycling Routes around Iwanowice guide or the Gravel biking around Iwanowice guide.
For the Castle in Ojcow, admission costs 18 zloty for adults and 9 zloty for children (as of 2021). At Korzkiew Castle, if it's open outside of events, an entrance ticket can be purchased for 20 zł (as of May 2024).
The Dworek w Iwanowicach hosts cultural events such as 'Jesienne Spotkania z Historią' (Autumn Meetings with History), which are lectures and presentations on regional history, and 'Majówka w Dworku' (May Picnic at the Manor House), featuring historical costume displays, traditional cuisine, and historical dance workshops.
While the main sites like Ojców Castle and Korzkiew Castle can be popular, the Dworek w Iwanowicach and the Zespół Dworski in Sieciechowice offer a more localized and potentially less crowded experience, focusing on the specific regional history of Iwanowice.
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, especially if you plan to explore the grounds, parks, or nearby hiking trails. Layers of clothing are advisable as weather conditions can change, particularly during spring and autumn. For indoor visits, casual attire is generally appropriate.
The Dworek w Iwanowicach features tastings of traditional manor house cuisine during its 'Majówka w Dworku' event. While specific cafes directly adjacent to all sites are not detailed, the larger towns and villages in the region, such as Ojców, will have dining options available.
