The Vía Ferrata de Zuheros is a relatively short and scenic via ferrata in the Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park near the white Andalusian village of Zuheros (province of Córdoba). It leads through the steep rock face of the Bailón Canyon and ends at the Mirador del Bailón viewpoint, offering stunning views of the canyon and the village. 🧗‍♂️ Difficulty: easy to moderate (mostly K2 on the Hüsler scale), suitable as an introduction to via ferratas. 🪨 Character: the route is equipped with iron rungs (grapas) and a safety cable; there are short, easy vertical and inclined sections, but hardly any spectacular overhangs or extreme sections. 📏 Duration & Length: approximately 45 minutes for the via ferrata itself, with a total distance of about 1.8–2 km including the approach and return. 📍 Access: The starting point is just a few minutes from the parking lot at the Río Bailón; the descent is usually via an easy path or back along the road. This via ferrata is ideal if you're looking for a scenic, not-too-difficult route in Andalusia, perfect for beginners or as an addition to a hike and village visit in Zuheros.

Zuheros is one of the most beautiful villages in Andalusia and is picturesquely situated in the mountains of the Sierra Subbética. The rugged karst rocks of the Sierra Subbética form a spectacular backdrop around Zuheros. The Vía Verde del Aceite in particular offers impressive views over the mountains and valleys. The landscape is characterized by olive groves, Mediterranean vegetation and dramatic rock formations.

This section of the path was washed away during our long-distance hike on the E4 from Tarifa to Switzerland. We had to walk around it. Walking along it would have been very dangerous.

Impressive limestone walls, with a multitude of vegetation sprouting through its numerous pores. They have been formed over time by the force of the Bailón River. From some angles you can see Zuheros and his castle looming between the walls.

Several vantage points provide a nice overview of Zuheros and the surrounding area.
