Klarenbeek Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

De Klarenbeek is the new name for the Monnikenhuizerbeek. The stream originates in a sprinkling pond on the north side of the Bosweg. From the Velperweg the stream is called Molenbeek.

One mill was located at the Klarenbeek: the Monnikhuizermolen. At the Molenbeek stood the Bethanische Molen, later rebuilt as the Mossemeulen, the Schavenmolen and the Boekhorster or Bierwischmolen.

The Klarenbeek - Molenbeek used to flow in the direction of Arnhem along the south side of the Velperweg and the present-day Willem van Gulikstraat and then flowed through Het Broek into the Sint Jansbeek, near the current Palace of Justice. The Klarenbeek supplies the ponds and canals in the built-up and park-like area. The brook runs from the sprinkling ponds over the area of Monnikenhuizen. Via the large pond on the other side of the Bosweg, the water is led further via the Huijgenslaan and the Laan van Klarenbeek. The brook splits at the intersection of Laan van Klarenbeek with Laan van Angerenstein. Part of it goes towards Angerenstein and another part towards Molenbeek. The last part flows, partly covered, under the Huijgenslaan to the Velperweg. Here the brook crosses the road via a siphon. The brook (now called Molenbeek) then largely follows the route along the Velperweg and the Molenbeke district.

October 18, 2025, Beekhuizen Waterfall and Lake

Stroll along the Beekhuizense Beek, where the water from the Veluwe flows to the sprinklers. The water is collected in the sprinkler heads for landscape regulation and for bottling as spring water.
