The Canal dels Micos is part of the ascent to the Miranda dels Ecos on the eastern side. It is a narrow channel where we will have to overcome a first section where you have to place your feet alternately to be able to progress and a second part where the branches of a yew tree force us to make a monkey to be able to overcome it. Finally the channel is blocked and you have to go out on the right in a side pass where a cable as a handrail will give us enough confidence to get out of the channel. From this point we will continue the ascent through the Canal del Camell. We must not forget that we are in Montserrat, so those who are not used to exposed steps without securing it should take it easy. It is advisable to bring a 40 meter rope in case we want to rappel back and especially if we want to go down the Echos chain on the way back, about 12 meters quite vertical. It is highly recommended, if not mandatory, to wear a helmet to protect us from falling rocks, which is frequent in this area.

At this point in its course, the river Llobregat crosses the large cracks that it has opened in the strata of nodular limestone, so that when the course of the river is low, it can be crossed by jumping from rock to rock. The name comes from the fact that a "bigaire" (a rafter, who transported logs of wood joined together to form a boat) died at this point.

The Font dels Llaminers is an intermittent spring of water, located on the right bank of the Riera de Rellinars that flows in episodes of continuous rain. To access it, it is necessary to take the Camino de Les Boades, and once you have passed the Font de Carlets, some two hundred meters further up, on the right, the forest disappears and gives way to some conglomerate walls. In this place, the bed and the channels of the stream are a rocky platform with eroded channels, through which the water circulates.

The region around Castellgalí is known for its distinctive geological formations, particularly the Badland of Cornet. This area features unique erosional patterns on poorly consolidated blue or grey mudstones from the Mid Eocene period. The landscape is shaped by active erosion from streams, creating steep scarps and numerous ravines, offering a fascinating example of badland topography.
For a quiet time, visit the Gorg Blau of the Riera de Rajadell. This gorge offers a peaceful natural setting. While beautiful, it's important to note that the stream water can be stagnant and cloudy, so it is not recommended for bathing.
Yes, the Sant Jeroni Channel is a challenging gorge that requires careful climbing. It offers stunning views for those prepared for a more demanding experience.
Many areas offer great views. For instance, the Trail below cliffs provides excellent views and, after rain, you might even see a waterfall. The Sant Jeroni Channel also boasts stunning vistas.
For the most comprehensive views of the Badland of Cornet, it is best to observe it from the opposite slope of the valley. This vantage point is accessible via the path leading towards the Sarri-Llar7 quarry and Can Mas, allowing you to appreciate its scale and intricate erosional patterns.
At the Bigaire Gorge, the Llobregat river crosses large cracks in nodular limestone. When the river's flow is low, it is possible to cross by jumping from rock to rock.
Yes, you can visit the Pools of the Font dels Llaminers. This is an intermittent spring located on the right bank of the Riera de Rellinars, which flows after periods of continuous rain. The stream bed here is a rocky platform with eroded channels.
Beyond exploring the canyons, Castellgalí offers a variety of outdoor activities. You can find numerous routes for MTB, Road Cycling, and Gravel Biking in the surrounding area. These guides provide options ranging from moderate to difficult.
Castellgalí is part of the Central Catalonia UNESCO Global Geopark, highlighting its rich geodiversity. The region, particularly the Badland of Cornet, serves as an excellent example of geological processes and how landscapes are formed and transformed over millennia, with its soft sedimentary rocks highly susceptible to erosion.
While specific seasonal recommendations for all canyons are not detailed, the presence of potential waterfalls after rain (as mentioned for the Trail below cliffs) suggests that spring or autumn, following periods of precipitation, could offer more dynamic water features. Always check local weather conditions before your visit.
The Bigaire Gorge, for example, derives its name from a 'bigaire' (a rafter who transported logs of wood) who died at that point, indicating a historical connection to local trades and the river's past use.
