📍 Start/End: Ulriksbanen (Ulriken) → Fløyen → Bergen city center. The most convenient option is to start from Ulriken and take the Fløibanen funicular at the end of the route. 🥾 Route: Vidden plateau between Ulriken and Fløyen – approx. 15 km of trekking through peat bogs, rocks, glacial lakes, and rugged Norwegian ridges. ⏱️ Time: officially approx. 5.5 hours, but realistically, allow 6-8 hours with breaks, photos, and bad weather. The whole thing took us exactly 7 hours. 🧭 Sections: the biggest effort is climbing Ulriken – especially the hiking variant via 1333 stone steps of Oppstemten. Further on, the trail leads across an open plateau with numerous small ascents and descents, and the final part near Fløyen turns into a more forest-like recreational area. 💡 Tip: although Vidden is not a technically difficult trail, it is definitely worth having GPS or an offline map. In poor visibility and with many side paths, it is easy to lose orientation at times – especially after descending from the Ulriken summit and in the vicinity of Fløyen. Drove up a bit from Strandebarm and climbed up from the parking lot. Not easy for beginners but average. The climb is rewarded with a beautiful view.

In winter, summer, or any time of year—this place doesn’t lose its charm. Nature shows itself in its rawest form here: green slopes, water, rock, and air all blending around this small mountain lake. A great spot to pause, have a snack, or simply take in the surroundings.

Høgabu is a self-service DNT cabin in Bergsdalen, about a 2–3 hour hike from Lid. No electricity or running water—just gas for cooking, a wood stove, and the basics you need for a simple night in the mountains. It’s quiet, surrounded by hills and small lakes, and open all year with the DNT key. A nice stop if you're looking for something peaceful and low-key.

We did a four week trip through Scandinavia. The parking space was one of the most beautiful we have come to and is highly recommended 👍
