OK, it didn't look quite as magnificent in September, but it was definitely worth seeing.

The Cascata dei Papalini suddenly appears in a small clearing in the heart of the forest, along the path: over time the falling water has formed a columnar deposit of gray limestone that descends like a drape and that partly acts as a springboard for the jet. But the peculiarity and spectacular nature of this waterfall is the possibility of seeing it even from behind the scenes: in fact, by climbing to the left on a short but steep path, you reach a natural roof of the rock from which you can observe the forest below through the curtain of water, without getting wet! The passage is not protected and is wet, so you need to pay particular attention. Like all torrential waterfalls, it is not always full and active: you need to look for the right period, perhaps after heavy rains, to visit it in all its thunderous splendor.

Numerous streams descend from the Altopiano delle Montagnole, creating lively waterfalls in secluded valleys. The Sette Fontane waterfall, rather than a vertical waterfall, is a sloping section of the stream that descends between the rocks: to be visited in post-rain periods, to find it impetuous and swollen. Nearby, continuing along the path to the left, you come to another small intake structure that cuts the Lora stream. In the 1920s, all this wealth of water was exploited by the Lanificio Marzotto to produce electricity, with a system of waterworks that are still functioning: three small concrete dams, corresponding to as many springs (Lora, Sette Fontane and Lambre), convey the water into the Obante basin below (capacity 800 cubic meters), next to the road that goes up to the Rifugio Battisti; from there, via a forced conduit, it reaches the Gazza Power Plant, further downstream, to generate hydroelectric energy (175 l/s, 2,500 MWh). The waterfalls and the structures cross each other along the Sentiero delle Cascate, a simple family-sized ring, immersed in the woods, which starts from Malga Lora or Vasca Obante and goes up to Rifugio Battisti, and then descends again.

Not a particularly large waterfall, but visible from a characteristic shelter that overlooks the waterfall itself. It can be reached from Malga Prà via a path immersed in the woods. The trail is a bit challenging and has ropes in some places. Attention: the highlight is marked as mountain biking, but the waterfall can only be reached on foot!!!!

The Brazzavalle waterfall is a 30-meter drop from the Le Fratte stream, nestled in a picturesque and pristine environment, nestled and "hidden" among woods and rocks. Just above the waterfall, a suspended walkway has been installed, culminating in a transparent glass cube: from there, you can admire the cascading water, with the void beneath your feet; a dizzying and breathtaking sensation! The structure, called the "Glass Cube," opened in 2020, is 3 meters long and 80 cm wide. The EE trail that leads to the waterfall in about fifteen minutes can be slippery on wet ground, but ropes help with the more difficult sections.

The region offers distinct experiences. At the Glass Cube and Brazzavalle Waterfall, you can stand on a cantilevered glass platform suspended over the 30-meter drop, offering a breathtaking perspective. Another unique spot is Papalini Waterfall, where you can walk behind the veil of water itself.
Yes, the Sette Fontane Waterfall is part of the Sentiero delle Cascate, a simple, family-sized loop immersed in the woods. The broader Via dell'Acqua (Water Path) along the Leogra stream also features smaller cascades and is suitable for gentle walks with families.
The waterfalls are most impressive after periods of heavy rain, when the streams are swollen and impetuous. This is particularly true for the Sette Fontane Waterfall and the cascades along the Val del Boia. While beautiful year-round, spring and autumn often provide the most dramatic flows.
Valli del Pasubio is known for its dramatic natural landscapes, including deep gorges and lush forests. The Val del Boia, for instance, is a deep, shady, and wild environment with a rushing stream and spectacular waterfalls. The region is also characterized by numerous natural springs, contributing to its nickname 'Village of Mineral Waters'.
Yes, the trail leading to the Glass Cube and Brazzavalle Waterfall is rated as challenging (EE). It can be steep and slippery in sections, especially when wet, and includes ropes to aid hikers on more difficult parts. The Braggion Trail, which includes the Val del Boia, also has exposed sections and can be slippery, with steel cables and wooden steps in riskier areas.

Visitors frequently highlight the immersive natural beauty and the unique perspectives offered. The opportunity to walk behind the Papalini Waterfall and the thrilling experience of the Glass Cube at Brazzavalle Waterfall are often mentioned. The pristine forest settings and the sound of rushing water also contribute to a sense of tranquility and escape.
While the region is primarily known for its natural beauty, Valli del Pasubio has significant historical ties to World War I. Along the Via dell'Acqua, you can find historic mills, such as the Venetian sawmill, which offer a glimpse into the area's past alongside the natural water features.
Given that many trails can be steep and slippery, especially after rain, appropriate trekking footwear is essential. Some sections, like the path to Brazzavalle Waterfall or the Braggion Trail, are equipped with ropes and cables, indicating the need for stable footing and potentially waterproof gear.
For the Glass Cube and Brazzavalle Waterfall, parking is available at the Balasso car park, from where the trail begins. For the Braggion Trail, which includes the Val del Boia, parking is typically found near the church of Campotamaso.
The hike to the Glass Cube and Brazzavalle Waterfall is relatively short, taking about 15 to 30 minutes one-way from the Balasso car park. The Braggion Trail, which features multiple waterfalls, is a 7km loop with an elevation gain of 450m, typically followed clockwise.
While the immediate vicinity of some waterfalls, like Brazzavalle, is pristine forest, the region has amenities. The Sentiero delle Cascate, which includes Sette Fontane Waterfall, can lead up to Rifugio Battisti, offering a potential stop for refreshments. For broader options, you would typically find cafes and restaurants in the main towns of Valli del Pasubio.
