The castle ruins show the preserved foundations of a castle that was fought over for centuries and has a strategic location. There are many benches from which you can admire the magnificent 360-degree panorama of the Soča Valley and the surrounding mountains on the edge of Triglav National Park.

The finish site of the nineteenth stage of the 2022 Giro d'Italia, won by Koen Bouwman, the Castelmonte Sanctuary (Stara Gora in Slovenian, meaning "ancient mountain") is located in the village of the same name in the municipality of Prepotto. Dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, the sanctuary was consecrated in 1744 and is of great importance to Slovenian literature: in the 1490s, the so-called Castelmonte Manuscript (Starogorski rokopis in Slovenian) was written here, one of the oldest surviving documents written in the Slovenian language.

Beautiful and nice hiking trail to the ruins with a great view! Parking is free and right next to the trailhead. There is also a cave, as well as plenty of park benches to sit and enjoy the view. It's best to get up early in the morning!
