The highlight in Upspring, the highest waterfall. Candidate for UNESCO cultural heritage, an impressive 13.35 cm high and an impressive 175 cm wide. Due to the immense water flow, swimming is strictly prohibited here for safety reasons!

When we were there in August there wasn't much to see of the waterfall, everything was overgrown, we will hike there again in autumn/winter.

The Lone falls down a good 13cm high heel! In Urspring this is signposted as a waterfall. The designation was probably made out of a beer mood, after all the outflow of the creek is given here with 2.5 half/second. Hopefully the beer consumption wasn't that great when the idea came up.

The Lonetal valley, where Lonsee is situated, is rich in diverse natural features. Beyond the waterfalls, you'll encounter significant karst springs, unique tufa formations, and small cascades. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills, green forests, and juniper heaths, offering a varied environment for exploration.
Yes, the region is known for its distinctive geological formations, particularly tufa. You can see picturesque moss-covered tufa formations at Moss-Covered Tufa Rocks and Springs. Another notable example is the Green Tufa Spring at St. Anna Spring, where a lime-rich karst spring creates beautiful cascades and small sinter pools with a unique greenish color. Remember not to step on these delicate sintered areas.
Many of the water features, like the Autal Waterfall, are particularly recommended during the blooming of winter aconites (Märzenbecherblüte) for a beautiful seasonal experience. For other waterfalls, like the Urspring Waterfall, visitors have noted that autumn or winter might offer a better view when vegetation is less overgrown, potentially revealing more of the water flow.
The Autal Waterfall, while not described as spectacular, is considered impressive and offers a relaxing atmosphere with the sound of rushing water. It's especially beautiful during the blooming of winter aconites. The nearby Brunnensteigh cave, where the Autalbach rises, also adds an interesting element for exploration, though parts are only for experienced cave divers.
Yes, the Urspring Waterfall is categorized as family-friendly. The surrounding area, including the Lonetopf spring, often features easy hiking trails suitable for families. For example, the 'Urspring Waterfall – Johanneskirche Urspring loop from Urspring' is an easy 4.8 km hike.

While the main highlights are well-known, exploring smaller water features like the Rötelbach Stream can offer a more secluded experience. This stream features small waterfalls and sometimes even crosses the hiking path, providing a unique interaction with nature. The Lonetal valley itself has many small, unnamed cascades and springs waiting to be discovered.
The Rötelbach Stream is known for its small waterfalls and for washing over the hiking trail in places. Depending on the water level, you might get wet feet, so appropriate footwear is advisable. There are also information boards along the stream, providing insights into the local environment.
