Since autumn 2023, the Prüm River can once again be crossed via a new, partially accessible suspension bridge. The view from the bridge is fantastic! However, the bridge sways quite a bit, so people like me with a fear of heights need a lot of courage; I only managed a short stretch. But there's also a lovely path around it.

The bridge sways slightly but is still easy to walk on. In the middle, there are benches on each side.

Free parking, but it also seems to be a meeting place for locals in the weekend.

There is a nearby hiking parking lot between Irrel and Prümzurlay from which you can easily reach the suspension bridge. For some, the bridge itself is an experience, while for others it's a convenient starting point for challenging or easy hikes. Replacement for the wooden bridge that was washed away in 2021. Accessible from Ernzen / Nature Park Center via the "Devilish Eight" trail for experienced hikers.

Cyclists have to dismount and push, but this is entirely justified. 👍

After the old bridge was washed away in a storm in 2021, this amazing suspension bridge was built. Walking across it is an experience; it swings and makes you feel like you're on the high seas 😂. There are two benches at the highest point for resting, but I'm not sure if that's good for you 🤢?

The most popular spot is the Irrel Waterfalls, known for its series of cascades and rapids created by the Nims river flowing over dolomite rocks. This area offers unique rock formations and hiking trails. Another highly regarded natural feature is the Dreamy stream with path, which provides a less crowded experience with a narrow forest path alongside a tranquil brook and small creeks.
Yes, the Irrel Waterfalls are particularly family-friendly, offering a great landscape with many interesting options for kids. The area around the Hängebrücke Irrel Parking Area is also noted as family-friendly, providing easy access to the suspension bridge and viewpoints.
You'll find a variety of trails. Near the Irrel Waterfalls, there are general hiking trails suitable for exploration. For a more challenging experience, the Tanzlay Waterfall and Rock Formations offers a trail-like path that requires sure-footedness, especially when wet. The Dreamy stream with path provides a narrow forest path for a quieter walk.
Please note that the Butzerbachtal Suspension Bridges and Waterfalls has been completely closed since 2021 and is expected to remain so until September 15, 2024. While detours are signposted, passage is currently at your own risk. When open, it features narrow paths, climbing sections, and suspension bridges, requiring good footing and proper footwear.
At the Irrel Waterfalls, if you wish, you can swim in the currents. Always exercise caution and be aware of local conditions.
Beyond the waterfalls, the region boasts impressive gorges. The Teufelsschlucht (Devil's Gorge) features a dramatic sandstone rock erosion landscape with chasms and bizarre rock formations. Nearby, in Luxembourg's Little Switzerland, the Wolfsschlucht (Echternach Gorge) showcases towering rock faces and unique sandstone stratification.
Yes, the Hängebrücke Irrel Parking Area is conveniently located directly opposite the suspension bridge over the Prüm river, providing easy access to the Irrel Waterfalls area.
