Of the many observation huts and lookout points in the Rieselfelder farms that I've visited, this observation hut number 4 by the large reservoir is my favorite so far! 🙂 It offers the most amazing view, considering the number and diversity of the birds usually seen. It also has a fairly long bench in front of one of the viewing hatches, including a mini-table in front of the hatch with space for mini-tripods. (Unfortunately, not all of the observation huts in the Rieselfelder farms have seating.)

A wonderful area. Unfortunately, there are hardly any benches to rest on.

If you have an eye for the beauty of the water surfaces surrounded by reeds, for the reflections on the water, the wildlife in the air and in the water...etc, then this is the right place for you! If you just want to "bike", you can probably do it better somewhere else.

The Rieselfelder area is a unique Natura 2000 protected area and bird reserve, characterized by a mosaic landscape of numerous ponds and shallow-water basins rather than large, distinct lakes. These water bodies are central to the ecosystem, providing vital habitats for diverse plants and animals, especially birds. You'll find both larger reservoirs and many shallow, reed-lined basins, crucial for the abundant birdlife.
The primary attraction is the exceptional birdlife and the serene natural environment. You can observe hundreds of different bird species year-round, including ducks, geese, waders, and gulls. Key features include observation huts, viewing platforms, and nature trails like the 'reed nature trail' that lead to vantage points. The entire area is a renatured biotope, offering a peaceful retreat. A notable spot is the Observation hut no. 4 with a view of the large reservoir, which is excellent for birdwatching.

The Rieselfelder area is primarily a nature reserve, so extensive commercial amenities like cafes directly within the reserve are limited. It's advisable to bring your own refreshments if you plan a longer visit within the reserve itself.
The Rieselfelder is an internationally important Ramsar site and an EU bird reserve. Originally irrigation fields for Münster's wastewater, the area was renatured between 1997 and 2000, transforming into a species-rich biotope. This ecological transformation created a vital habitat for a diverse range of plants and animals, particularly birds, making it a crucial site for wetland conservation and biodiversity.
The Rieselfelder offers excellent birdwatching opportunities from various points. The Observation hut no. 4 with a view of the large reservoir is a highly recommended spot. Additionally, the Rieselfelder Münster Nature Reserve features viewing platforms and a 'reed trail' that leads to a vantage point at the small reservoir, providing excellent views without disturbing the wildlife.
