January 20, 2024, Sultan Selim Mosque

An impressive mosque next to the Mevlana Museum, featuring a large carpet as a door and a beautiful dome. Construction began in 1558 during Sultan Selim's tenure as governor of Konya and was completed in 1567. It is one of the finest examples of classical Ottoman architecture in Konya. Its floor plan is similar to the Fatih Mosque in Istanbul. The central domed space is extended on one side by a semi-dome. The mosque's interior, with its seven-domed narthex and two minarets, is adorned with hand-painted ornaments.
